Cant relly criticize Viru too much for that - not the greatest shot but on another day, he'd lace it for 4

I had a feeling this might happen at the start of the series...South Africa were the underdogs, India were the favourites at home..and SA seem to perform better when they are the underdogs..and lose when they are expected to win.
Examples:
SA tour of Aus in 2008 (underdogs)
AUS tour of SA 2009 (favourites)
England tour of SA 2009, everyone expected them to crush England..and they ended up trailing 0-1..and once everyone expected England to win the series, they came back with a bang..

Also, this is pure deja vu (2008)..They will probably win this test match, and then India will produce a turner where Bhajji and Mishra will run them down. 1-1..what a shame! This deserved atleast 3 test matches...5 would have been ideal.

Spot on !!

Whenever such a comment pops up I am reminded of Barrington who once was in a spell of very low scores all with very short stays at the wicket. A Journalist asked him if he was in the worst form of his life (or words to that effect). Barrington replied, "I cant tell you because I haven't stayed long enough at the crease to find out whether I am in good form or bad!"
I am truly at a loss for words at times like these really..I mean if a man with 30000 international runs is considered a failure because apparently he fails against "good" South African bowling attacks..I dont even know how to respond to something like that.

^^ and didnt India beat England in 07 and again in 08? :P
There is a reason why the debate is still going on and will go on after this series.

I think its

1. India/SA ( The India tour of South Africa is going to decide this one)
2. Australia
3. England

if sachin scores a double and saves the match i am willing to place him above lara (and below richards) as the second greatest batsman of my lifetime.

go sachin go.

there wont be a better opportunity for you to win the most coveted honor in the world - my approval!

Surprised the security staff have let Steyn in with not just one, but eight hand grenades. Meanwhile the only ammunition our bowlers have been provided with are packets of Mrs Macs.

Hardly seem fair.

It's the third day of the series, a little early to be redoing the rankings.

however, afaic if SA wins in India it's India=SA=Aus (if it's really close then perhaps India to remain at 1 regardless)
