Siddle has been playing injured & not @ 100% to a level though. Unlike North who has definately look gash. Siddle's pace has been down since the ODI series in IND...

Or it might just be that he is really not a test class bowler.

I think North and Siddle could be dropped to blood some new players for the last Test as North only has 186 runs @ 23 from 5 Tests while Siddle has only 6 wkts @ 68 from 4 Tests...more than enough chances

So assuming Katich is fit and could open or fill a middle order slot (as Watto is now the #1 opener), who would you replace North and Siddle with....

Batting candidates (in order of FC runs scored)

Klinger (29) 655 runs @ 109
Bailey (27) 506 runs @ 56 (but I think he's inured?)
Khawaja (23) 485 runs @ 60
S. Marsh (26) 477 runs @ 59
Rogers (32) 456 runs @ 65
Hughes (21) 425 Runs @ 38
D.Hussey (32) 414 runs @ 51
Jaques (30) 403 runs @ 50
Smith (20) 267 runs @ 89

Bowling candidates (in order of FC wkts)...umm, the cupboard looks bare......

George (23) 24 wkts @ 28
Geeves (27) 16 wkts @ 28
McKay (26) 12 wkts @ 30

So I guess Siddle will play.....
Another candidate on the batting front would be Ed Cowan who has 582 runs @ 58. I would probably give Marsh a go out of that lot.

I would think that Makay would probably get another shot if they dropped Siddle. Other seam options might be
Hastings - 19 wickets @ 22
Cutting - 19 wickets @ 25

I know nothing about Hastings or Cutting outside of their stats, but given Hastings can also bat a bit he might be worth a go.

The lack of competition would certainly encourage Brett Lee to keep going while he is recovering.

Our next Test series is in England, the final Test selection should reflect that. If we're not taking North to England, don't play him in the next Test and vice-versa.

We play 2 Tests against NZ in NZ before playing Pakistan in England.

I don't really think Australia should be looking at selecting Hastings yet. Geeves is definitely ahead of him.

North has been retained for Hobart.

This selection panel is a bunch of soft ****s.
Hughes, Katich and North are all in the squad. Any chance that the plan (assuming Katich is fit) is to put Katich at 4, Hussey at 6, keep Hughes at the top and drop North?

A lot of his bowling seems all huff and puff for not much maybe?
The huff n puff isn't non threatening my any means. He is always at you as batsman & would run in for a captain all day even if tough conditons.

As i said he has been down on pace this summer since that injury he suffered in India. Which is why hasn't been at his usually bustling best as he was on debut he he hit Gambhir on his helmet - was superb in SA & in ENG (after a slow start).

Bowls to short.
Thats his natural lenght. Just like it was for Gillespie, i guess he can work on adding some swing to his bowling though. But overall he is fine & is DEFINATELY test class, very surprised anyone would question whether he is..

Siddle's just not that threatening without any tools like swing or whatever. He's also not always that fast and not always that accurate. Most batsman dont have much trouble facing him bar the odd occassion and I'm not sure he adds much to the attack (yet).

Wasn't too hot half the time in the Ashes.
Yea he had an up & down Ashes series. Started off eratic didn't maintain the excellent control he had in SA but ended well. He wasn't as bad as Johnson for example who basically lost the plot due to various reason in the first 3 test.

Siddle was always looked like he was potentially like he was going to get a wicket in the Ashes.
