Well I'm not saying Dalrymple was good, but I dispute that he should be close to worst-of-the-decade. Surely we can find someone worse than "not quite up to it".Yep, I agree that he did look pretty good when he started. But so did this guy when he started for Trinidad and Tobago.
Well I didn't want to pick any Bangladeshis or Zimbabweans, or players who played less than a handful of matches. I suppose there's a New Zealander who can put his hand up for a callup.Well I'm not saying Dalrymple was good, but I dispute that he should be close to worst-of-the-decade. Haa...allright no jokes aside. Look back at the test he played:
I'm not denying he bowled crap. But as i said he was ONLY picked because the talk was that Perth test was going to be a flyer (seeing him bowl in T20 vs NZ a month earlier @ Perth also aided in fuelling that hype). It was no where close to that pace wise, so it was mixture of lack of Perth flyer + general poor bowling.Jono said:So what, Pathan and RP were swinging the ball everywhere. You can't solely blame the pitch on Tait's failures there, he seriously bowled poo.

SCG 08: Why in god's name was he picked there as Symonds replacement?. The better options ATT was to probably pick North or D Hussey to bat @ 6. Or even drop Hauritz & pick 4 seamers in Johnson/Bollinger/Hilfy/Siddle, since before the test only Johnson was bowling well all series for AUS.
SA 09: Right 4 proper seamers should have played all 3 tests. Ok Bollinger got injured before the 1st test, but why wasn't Nannes called up?. Nonsense..
ENG 09: What was his use on that tour?. Another batsman in Hodge would have made far more sense. But the selectors disgraceful treatment of him again was on display..

Talking about the swing IND got yea it was there. But if you remember Tait was bowling 4th change so any conventional swing he wouldn't/couldn't have utilised it with an old ball..
Yeah, him and Yardy are actually both tidy county-level batsman who bowl a little fill-in slow stuff (might even go so far as to call Dalrymple's "spin", but would make no such concession to Yardy) who somehow found themselves playing as specialist ODI spinners.Dalrymple wasn't that bad. He finished his career terribly but he looked the part for a while before that. Wasn't really in a role that suited him much but he did okay.
In terms of a "worst team of the decade", Slater's by far the worst specialist bat who actually had a decent run in the side, the fact I think he should be a shoe in speaks volumes about the performance of the Australian side during the decade.Michael Slater?
Forgot about Brett Dorey in the ODI's actually, was always fun watching him bowl Remember the talk about him before he played. Turned out to just be tall and slow.
You're right actually. ODI batting career was only five innings long, but was only out of top 6 twice.Yardy batted high up in the CT from what I remember
I nominate Lance HamiltonWell I didn't want to pick any Bangladeshis or Zimbabweans, or players who played less than a handful of matches. I suppose there's a New Zealander who can put his hand up for a callup.
Doesn't fit into my 6-1-4 formation if I'm sacking Dalrymple.I nominate Lance Hamilton
Haha yeah. remember Glenn Turner backing him as our reserve ODI keeper in the media and i was like "really, oh thank god Vettori is a selector now".Well despite you already having a 'keeper I daresay that Gareth Hopkins deserves a spot somewhere. 56 runs in 14 ODI's & iirc he has made appearances as specialist batsman
Ah, I see. Was he chosen by default due to lack of squad options? Or was he actually preferred to a proper batsman? The latter sounds like something only WI would do.
Yeah, definitely should have played four quicks, especially in Australia at...
aussie advocating 4 seamers? Nearly fell off my chair
