If you are drafting teams from players that have debuted in the last 25 years then Kallis has to go higher than any other batsman, right? Maybe number 1?
As a batsman, he's competing with the usual suspects - Ponting, Tendulkar, Lara. Might put Ponting top myself.

Love how much eaisier he has made it look thany any other batsman today, fitting that he is the first man to score a hundred this decade.

Great knock in tough conditions today.
Thats his 32nd hundred. Pretty impressive.

Surely the bowling takes him above the names you mention.

Kallis would be my first choice to build a team around.

Yes and not one that I'd want to encourage us to have now - or ever again
I dont see why not. He has just scored a great century and has been in great form this series. I see no reason why it isnt relevant to discuss his place in the pantheon of modern greats.

Surely better to go to the threads comparing Sachin to Lara to Ponting to Dravid to Kallis to Chanderpaul to Yousuf to Sangakkara to Hayden.

They'd be the only 100% established modern guns wouldn't they? You can argue Inzy too. Not talking about pre-2000s, because obviously than Border, Waugh etc. come into it.

... see what I did there? I opened up a discussion on modern batting greats

Silly to bowl a bouncer then really

A decent day, honours even?
Nah, SA will be absolutely delighted with that if the pitch eventually deteriorates as the guys on TMS initially predicted. Especially as their last 4 wickets could easily add another 100+. As in the previous two tests, our seamers aren't quite good enough to take advantage of early conditions, and we're going to have to play really well now.

As everyone's already said, Kallis continues to be a class apart and Duminy continues his very good impression of a rabbit frozen in front of the headlights,

Fair enough. I just mean that, purely personally, I'm "kallis v ponting v lara v tendulkar"ed out.
