*Official* England in South Africa

Strauss needs to put the drive away again. It was the main shot that was getting him in trouble when he was out of form before, and now he's getting out playing it regularly once more.
Yes because he's feeling confident and positive he is being sucked into the drive again, far too early in his innings in this case. It was his discipline in this area that got him back into some form and back scoring runs again, he must obviously be aware of this.

He may have been a touch short, but poor stuff is a bit harsh.

The ball Onions got Kallis with was an absolute beauty. Great start to the morning for England with the ball, did exacgtly what they needed to do and wrappen the SA innings up sharpish.
Was looking exclusively at that one over. The plan was laid out and it was completely ignored.

Maybe I was a bit harsh, but Harris averages something like 4 times more against England than against all other nations and it is particularly frustrating to see bowlers continuing to persist with the same sort of strategy that has resulted in his scoring runs against us.

Its the first time since his Napier 08 revival that a bowler has actually bowled to him their often TBF.
Not sure about that, just think he has left the ball very well and inevitably allowed the bowlers to come to him. If he leaves anything driveable outside off they do eventually get bored and don't want to waste the new ball and go much straighter, which has allowed him to milk them off his legs.

Yes I know what you're saying, and with Harris you don't need to force him back as he always hangs deep in his crease on the back foot.

Think he has quite clearly worked on his driving and is much better than he was back in 06-07-08. But yes, he does need to shelve it earlier on in his innings. He seems to be having problems against the round-the-wicket line moreso than just the driving causing him problems.

Well yea thats true, his leaving has improved. But remembering how the tall bowlers like McGrath & Clark troubled him with the line first in Ashes 06/07, Morkel is the only one since the trouble him in that area.

Even when SA toured ENG in 2008, if my memory is right Morkel got him out like 3 or 4 times in that series with that same line...

You're not a fan of him are you TEC?

There's something about him that I like, I must admit. Of course he shouldn't have been given the new ball but that's another story.

Haha but surely with Morkel being the main (only?) guy to really trouble Strauss properly, he had to open.

From what I have seen him from in a little over 1 test, I think he is average. I like his bowling action, and he generates a fair bit of pace but he seems straight up and down to me. He doesn't swing it and is not really much of a seam bowler.

Yeah tbh its the action that I most like. I tend to become fond bowlers with actions that I really like.

To me he reminds me slightly of Steyn from 2004... both his face and bowling action... just without the swing

All Anderson needs to do is master reverse swing like what Hoggard did in the back end of his career in Nagpur & Adealaide 06 when pitches are flat & his repertoire will be complete.
And learn not to walk around looking like a disaffected 5 year old when things aren't going so well.

Two big strikes for SA prior to the lunch break, first Trott when seemingly set and looking solid, and then the 'people's champion' KP. Big blows for England, can Colly produce another one of his specials ?
