Patel hasn't done much wrong lately plus it wouldn't be much of a battle because a NZ team doesn't really need a second spinner in the shortest form(s), especially with Patel and the allround skills of the older McCullum already in the setup plus both have seemed to maintain their form. Granted they are both economical bowlers but that pitch was extremely conducive to spin bowling - was a shame Williamson didn't try tossing it up. The test will come when we see how they bowl on roads. Good to see ND get home but couldn't believe that Marshall seemingly forgot that Yovich's tendancy to consistently choke under pressure with the ball, the sheer fact that he let Yovich bowl a third over was the main reason Auckland got let into the match imo. Well played Watling and especially well played Hopkins.

tbh I'm having a bit of a laugh with Ronny, but surely Bruce Martin has proved over his decade long career that he is a better limited overs bowler than Patel....

The statzzz are certainly in his favour anyway

Is Cairns playing any sort of domestic cricket back home? Just curious as he has registered for the IPL.

Like the look of Nick Beard - wasn't afraid to loop it up, although I'm not completely sold on his action. Seems to lean over quite a bit on delivery.

Loved Broom's dismissal of James Marshall. Just served to highlight the continuing mediocrity of the Marshalls by bowling him with what was pretty much just a poor long hop.

Gee Im impressed by this Nick Beard fella. Tosses it up nicely, the action reminds me of abdur razzak from Bangladesh, might have chucking allegations in the future

Stags get bowled out in 18 over for 116 with Taylor scoring 40 and rest of batting failing. Otago going ok at 46 for 3.

Otago 74 for 8, with Oram bowling a great spell with 5 wickets. What a win for the Stags this will be if they can defend 116.

Otago needed 3 off the last ball and they only got 1 off it. And wellington won with Shah going crazy to get them home.

Good to see Jimmeh getting a couple of wickets and bowling tightly. Really do hope his knee is OK and he's getting back to something akin to his form of old with the ball. We could really use that Jimmy Franklin when the aussies come knocking.

I was told by another poster on PC that went to the game that Franklin was bowling rather quickly (quicker then he has been anyway) so that's a good sign.

If James Franklin translated some of his FC batting to tests along with the bowling of old he'd be world class, possibly challenging the likes of Cairns.

He won't though, I'm not that optimistic. :p
