Decent domestic bowlers, nothing more. Ewen Thompson showed us that early this year.
In his entire one game on a road against India in a series where every NZ bowler bar arguably Mills was taken apart.

Regardless of whether he'd be a good ODI bowler or not, my previous post still stands. Canterbury were defeated by a good batting and bowling performance, yes by bowlers that bowl under 140.

No, they lost because they let CD make 300 and then choked when batting. When a batsmen scores 150 your team should win.

You think Thompson could have been decent in international cricket?

You're the one picking left arm fast bowlers with FC avergaes of 47 far, far before they're ready.

Not to mention putting Kemar Roach in world XIs.
And? Thompson was never going to succeed in international cricket. Mitchell McClenaghan on the other hand actually has the tools that will allow him to do that.

Howsie's right here. The difference between Thompson and McClenaghan is that Thompson is a decent domestic seamer. McClenaghan isn't one.

We don't know if Thompson will succeed in international cricket because he's played one ODI and one 20/20. He isn't quick but has good variation, accuracy and can move the ball and has a proven List A record so the jury is out. Mitchell McClenaghan is a good prospect. He has good pace and bounce and occassionally good swing, but he still has a lot to work on. Being a left armer and quick, which NZ batsmen suck the most at, he should start taking wickets fairly soon.

Do you know why Thompson was only given one game Flem?
Because he bowled the worst of the seamers in that ODI and we needed a scapegoat.

If we're going to condemn players off just one game, then Kane Williamson sucks because he got out cheaply today. Run out. Obviously a poor caller and can't run fast.

Still doesn't change the fact Thompson was still too good for Canterbury and you can't handle it.

I'm pretty sure had it been just one bad game the selectors would have kept him around if they thought he could handle it. You don't discard a guy because of one bad game if he's any good.

History of selectors around the world to disagree.

Do you think had Shane Bond played poorly in his first game he would of been dropped and never seen again?
You know its completely unfair to compare an NZ all time great to any current bowler in NZ.

And with Vettori in there to counteract Glenn "Hopkins is our ODI keeper" Turner then I can see our selections getting fairer, but thats a whole new topic.
