My understanding of the draft is when they got Favola, and had Rischitelli and Bradshaw (the two original guys offer in exchange) agreed to go to Carlton, Brisbane wouldn't have lost any draft picks?Voss seems extremely confident Brisbane at right on the verge of a crack at the flag. Definitely trying a different approach to the focus on youth youth youth. If it works, will probably spark a trend, but got the feeling Brisbane might have a disaster of a list in three years time.
No, they wouldn't have. However, they would have had to have paid for all of Fev's contract, whereas now Carlton are picking up some of the bill because Brisbane had to give up "more" of their future. My understanding of the draft is when they got Favola, and had Rischitelli and Bradshaw (the two original guys offer in exchange) agreed to go to Carlton, Brisbane wouldn't have lost any draft picks?
Really? This time last year he was touted as a possible number 1 pick, and some think that he's the best of the WA lot (even more than Morabito). Dominated all the drills at the draft camp, is a natural footballer, makes good decisions - in a way, he kind of makes things look easy, but because he doesn't do all the flashy stuff people don't talk about him as much. He's a safe pick though, and will be a very very good player. Too good for you blokes.ummm why didn't we go for Maguire?
Good to see the Saints get shafted with Ball.
Know nothing of Kane Lucas.
Maguire is the sixth player from another club taken on since the end of the season - Fevola, Brent Staker, Amon Buchanan, Andrew Raines and Xavier Clarke, being the others. Of those, Fevola is the only one you'd bank on being the best 22 for more than a couple of years - Buchanan would be, but Staker, Raines and Clarke are all pretty marginal IMO. Maguire would be in the same boat. If they all come off and blossom under Voss, he's a genius for a) picking them up and b) extracting the best out of them, but I could see it easily being the case that all bar Fevola being gone in three years time.My understanding of the draft is when they got Favola, and had Rischitelli and Bradshaw (the two original guys offer in exchange) agreed to go to Carlton, Brisbane wouldn't have lost any draft picks?
Jamie McMillan?Gah, Camberwell lost themselves a wicketkeeper to North Melbourne FC.
Personally, I reckon Staker's a good pick-up. He's got something about him that I've always liked, although he needs to be more of a running option than a too-small tall.Maguire is the sixth player from another club taken on since the end of the season - Fevola, Brent Staker, Amon Buchanan, Andrew Raines and Xavier Clarke, being the others. He's performed pretty radical surgery on a list that got into the finals this year - not saying that he was necessarily wrong, but it goes against the recent trend where taking cast-offs to patch over gaps in the list hasn't worked out.
That said, it's worth it for sticking the knife into Carlton...
Yeah, played a few games at Camberwell before getting back problems. Was a handy keeper, and a good bat, but was never going to "make it".Jamie McMillan?
But it's not like we had an excessively older list, to begin with. Most of our squad is still under the age of 27, and so in 3 years time, a lot of our list will still be playing, and coming in to the peak of their powers. Guys like Rich, Adcock, Sherman, Patfull, etc.Voss seems extremely confident Brisbane at right on the verge of a crack at the flag. Lack of talent has never been Staker's problem. It's that he plays a game like some Goodes/Judd hybrid and then goes missing for the next two and a half months, and by the time you're sick of the sight of him he has another blinder. Even more annoyingly, his form seems to increase when he's playing for a contract extension. Although I do hope he plays well and with more consistency for Brisbane.Personally, I reckon Staker's a good pick-up.
