Wellington have acquired Robbie Schaw. Which is bad news for Jeetan - less bowling for him.

What do people know about Schaw his average is 56 which doesn't seem to flash and his SR is 84.

Also I noticed on the blackcaps site they have a fans zone now - is that new. I didn't notice it before.

Wellington have the 3rd best spinner in the country anyway tbh and the guy can barely get a game.

Found out why Trent Boult hasn't been playing over the winter for any of the New Zealand teams, he suffered a stress fracture around March apparently, had anyone heard of this?

The Waikato times said he had been playing in Australia over the last two or three weeks though which is good news I spose.

1st stress fracture - I assume in the back? Mark it down people.
You have assumed correctly. It's not suprising tbh, someone bowling that quick and only weighing around 70kg's? you would think he might get quite a few injuries during his career.

Poor guy will be gutted.

And NZ fans' hopes have taken yet another hit.

If there was a NZ journalist with their **** together they would do a story on this and NZ's history of fast bowler injuries.

Cricinfo ran a story on it (with Nash as the focus) around the time of the indian tour irrc.

Not bowling on concrete all winter would be a good idea, along with taking Brent Arnel seriously instead of telling him to harden the **** up (that one always makes me facepalm).

There's only one man for this job! Jonathan Millmow...
Still in love with him? :p

In the few times I read the Dominion per week I can't recall anything too cringeworthy this year. Certainly nothing as fun as "Bangladesh will beat us." Maybe he reads up on your advice Heef? :p

What facilities have they got where they can get away from bowling on concrete? Certainly can't train outside in NZ's winter aye.

Gotta be something softer than concrete surely? My feet are on this magnificent thing called carpet atm.

Actualy thats a lie, it's my rooms imitation of carpet. It's more of a threaded rock but hey, I'm not fussy. I'm not bowling on it.

And no I'm not seriously suggesting carpet for the academy, I'm just making the point that solid concrete then NZs soft pastures is probably not the nicest transition for a bowler.

Figure they may have thought about an alternative. Given they spend moolah trying to develope these kids only to have them break down. Makes NO sense to keep breaking their backs if they know what the problem is but don't do anything about it.

So perhaps they don't have enough money, have done no research or there is no conclusive evidence to show that bowling on those wickets does ruin backs.

Here's an idea. Maybe our up and coming fast bowlers should be doing preseason in Australia where they can get proper outdoor practice (and, indeed proper games) without having to run up on concrete.

In fact, that's exactly what Mark Houghton and Cameron Merchant have been doing ahead of this provincial season. Now, there are obvious benefits for spinners and batsmen, but surely the gains are even greater for the quicks??

Thats a plan.

Think Hay and Schaw were over there too (seem to remember Sinclair saying something along those lines in the online chat).

Bouncy castles ftw though.

A lot of the ND players are over in Australia at the moment, Yovich, Boult, Parlane, and I think James Marshall is also over there. From all accounts Joey Yovich has been going great guns, scored 80* and picked up five wickets in one game.

Yeah, but he's only playing second grade club cricket to be fair so a decent first-class cricketer should be doing very well at that level. The first grade overseas player for his club (Sutherland) is Andre Adams, however, who took 6 for not many on the weekend.

Match practice definitly the best preparation for an upcoming season though. Runs breeds runs, wickets breeds wickets etc.

Darren Broom has been in good form in club cricket in Dunedin, scoring two hundreds in a row. Looks like he could be pushing for a place alongside his brother.
