Where did I say I hated them? I've got no beef with people who casually support their team.
What I have always had a problem with, let me bore you tears, with a little story. See before I had all the babies I was home and away, midweek jaunts to ****holes like Bournemouth and pre-season friendlies away to Shrewsbury, yeah, I did the lot. I don't or didn't want any medal, recognition, thanks. Because at the end of the day I did it through my own choice. Sure, I felt obliged and put all my energy into it, but nobody forced me to.
Now at the same time I knew plenty of people who watched the same team as I did, but just, you know, at home games, or when their girlfriend would let them, whatever. There was always banter between me and my fellow obsessives, and them, but no, of course I didn't have a problem with them. How often they go and watch the team is up to them.
What I had a problem with was at Oldham away in February 06. We were trailing 1-0 and things were pretty dismal (though compared to now they were positively fantastic) and 'Little Out' was becoming a commonplace chant. I, however, was
not chanting it, but some wanker at his first away game of the season got in my face for some reason and screamed, "GET BEHIND THE ****ING TEAM!"
II was a little taken aback and didn't really say anything to him, but let me make my point clear. I've no problem at all with the fact that it was his first away game of the season, I have no problem with people who go to no games. I have a big problem with people telling me how I should support my team, and I have a big problem with people who don't give a **** half the time but are the biggest fans of their team in the world when it suits them - see Liverpool winning the Champions League in 2005.
That CHinese guy you mention, he's fine by me, but nobody's ever going to tell me he's as passionate a supporter of his club as some of the people who post in this thread are of theirs. Going the game isn't the criteria, because it's not possible for everyone. But giving a **** all the time makes you a better supporter than, well, being a bit blaze about the whole thing. But again, it's up to the individual how much of a supporter they want to be and I don't think myself superior to anybody else because of how much my team means to me - quite the opposite sometimes in fact.
