Yeah, we all know the commentators read CW when they're off the mic.

Chopra on the verge of a hundred of his own. Hants a bit ragged in the field tonight.

Annoying how patronising they are whenever a young player does well. They literally compliment every little thing they do and just go on about how they are a future England star and everything. Everything becomes aimed at the young batsman/bowler that is doing well and it usually means they ignore someone else who might be playing just as well. Gets to the point where I sometimes turn the sound off it gets so irritating.

Yeah agree with all this. They even made a fuss about John Simpson scoring 20-odd for Middlesex the other week. It's unneccesarily patronising for the young players - we know they can cover-drive/bowl a yorker etc, otherwise they wouldn't be playing even at that level. And like you say, it's very harsh on seniors who are better players themselves and denied all credit. Chopra is as much a prospect as a current Under-19.

Case in point... Alex Hales played brilliantly last Saturday, but they spent aaages going on about him scoring a four, then taking a single, as if it should be beyond a 19-year-old.

Yeah, though Hales was a bit of an exception TBF. That innings really was amazing, whoever had played it. I agree with you about the John Simpson innings, that was exactly what I was talking about.

Oh yeah it was a great innings and they were right to praise it, but they overplayed the mental side of it. Smashing hundreds in low-pressure OD cricket can't be that much different at county level than at lower levels. But technically it was brilliant.

Yeah get your point there. They said that he was under loads of pressure, because he was young. WTF, no he wasn't. He was under way less pressure because nobody really expected him to go out and blast 150* did they? The people who are under pressure are people like Ben Smith, who are proven performers at every level and who people expect to dig them out of **** if they are doing badly.

Can I ask how Westfield bowled today, I heard he is pretty quick and a good all round prospect.

Udal knocked for six

County ground was surprisingly spicy in the 40 over game Sky covered a few days back.

Highly unusual considering most county wickets are dog at this time of the year, Northants like to play two spinners and only have one genuine quick playing.

I don't know, probably the kids first time on TV and he played an incredible innings when wickets were still falling around him. Compare that to Michael Carberry, who routinely appears on the box only to complete freeze and makes all the praise the commentators laud upon him seem laughable.

I do think it says something to score runs (or conversely take wickets) when the cameras are there, especially when you are an inexperienced teenager. These kids are playing for their future, Ben Smith isn't. He can fail and still get X amount of chances.

Westfield didn't bowl faster than 83mph but his line was very good. Also bowled wide of the crease. He was the pick of the bowlers.

How is player talent a fault of the domestic system?

If the player's not good enough, he's not good enough - it's simple.

Third CC 100 of the season for Alex Gidman - Surrey on the rack again (Herath 0 for 61).

At least Middlesex are struggling as well - 57 for 6 at Northampton.

Can't see there being much play at Durham, rain probably saved Somerset but it's a good enough result for Durham anyway.

Um don't somerset need to win he game to have any chance of winning the comp.
Durham 30 poits in ahead of notts and somerset.

Probably yes, but Somerset wouldn't have won even if play had started on time this morning - this is the last day. Durham will be happy with draws and bonus points from now on I imagine.

Shock news: rain stops play in Manchester. Pity, if we got a full game in we could have been in with a chance of a much-needed victory.
