Typical Guptill innings so far. Loves playing his shots especially on the legside and mostly scores in boundaries - unfortunately frequently seems to get a quick 20-40 and then gets over-ambitious.

I guess we'll see.

He's the right guy to open for us, just needs to work on his approach to batting in Test Cricket. Needs to have a better mentality IMO.

How do his scores stack up compared to other NZ openers after 6 turns at bat?
Richardson: 6, 13, 99, 23, 77, 26
How: 11, 37, 0, 9*, 0, 4
Bell: 4, 0, 0, 25, 6, 6
Cumming: 74, 7, 37, 10*, 5, 0
Redmond: 0, 17, 28, 6, 6, 1
McIntosh: 34, 24*, 136, 3, 12, 0
Papps: 59, 12, 0, 8*, 7, 0

Ducks: 9

Guppy the first NZ opener to not score a duck in his first six innings since Richardson. Lets celebrate.

McIntosh can play some wonderful shots. It's just a shame about that glaring technical flaw.

It's good to see McIntosh bringing back the floppy hat. Underused, IMO.

So today read SL 159/7
NZ 87/2

Much better, would be feeling positively chipper if Guppy or Flynn had survived till the end of the day.
