Nadal went out in the fourth round, but Federer still had to fight his way to the title. A Grand Slam title is a Grand Slam title regardless of whether you beat Robin Soderling or Rafael Nadal.

The next time Federer and Nadal meet in a Grand Slam final, they'll be a question mark over Federer regardless of surface, but for now he took his opportunity.

I think the nature of the sport dictates that must be the case. You play 7 opponents on your way to a Grand Slam title. In that regard it's different to say, golf, where the entire 130 odd field is playing against each other.

When Becker won his 1st Wimbledon, his opponent in the final, Kevin Curran, took out both Lendl and McEnroe. Historically speaking, it doesn't detract from his effort in winning the tourney. Same with one of Agassi's US Opens where Sampras, Rafter et al were rissoled early.

In undeniable proof that there is no God, Ivo Karlovic was drawn against Andy Roddick at Queens Club this week. The match finished 7-6 (7-4) 7-6 (7-5) to Roddick with neither player managing to break serve once. 50 aces were hit, 12 of the 24 games played being decided on aces alone.

Looks like Tommy is having one last push up the rankings in his career, he's in pretty good form at the moment and it would be nice for him to maybe sneak back into the top 15-20 and possibly retire at the end of next year. Hopefully he can beat Kohlschrieber in the Halle semis tonight and then face off against Novak tomorrow in the final.

Murray vs. Roddick would have been a good final, because Roddick is pretty strong on grass. Would have been interesting to see how Murray handled it, though would likely have won anyway. He should beat Blake in the final in 2 sets now I reckon.

Haas making a run :D Good tough win over Kohlschreiber. Has Djokovic in what should be a good final in Halle.

Haas' first final in a couple of years. Obviously not expecting him to win but good that hes showing some form. A tournament win might just get him seeded for Wimbledon and thus avoiding another seed till round 3.

Just realised that with Thomas Johansson retiring recently. The list of grand slam winners still active since the turn of the century are:

And Since 2004

Safin, Gaudio, Djokovic 1

thats 19/22 thats won by the number 1 and 2 - amazing! Safin's semi-final defeat of Fed in the 05 Aus Open probably the best GS perfomance by anyone against these two.
