Group B - Pakistan, England, Netherlands

I would think with different totals the Margin of victory needed would be different
No, because all teams will have faced 40 overs if Pakistan win by runs, so it comes down to runs difference.

If Netherlands bat first, it's a different matter, but that's not what the article was about.

See Neil's post.

Working on the assumption that it's a 20-over game, no. But if Duckworth-Lewis comes into play, i have a lot more maths to do :(.

So than Pakistan do need win by 60 runs, since they lost by 48 and Holland won the 1st Match

Or Am I missing something

No, because

a) Netherlands won by 1 run
b) Every run Pakistan win by is also a "minus run" for the Netherlands.

So Netherlands have a 49 run gap, divided by two is 25 runs.

How the hell did they managed to **** up the calculation so badly and come up with 'Pakistan need to win by at least 60 runs'?

I mean that figure makes no sense whatsoever.

Don't get why Pakistan's playing Misbah so low down the order..... Just wasting him down there. He's not one of those players who can get going from ball one.
I thought he'd come in at 4 or 5..... thats where he had most of his success in last world cup in Africa.

Agreed, main thing is that Afridi is not doing anything with his bat. If he start doing his job with the bat,I think Pak also start winning ;)

I don't think Pakistan need to win by 50 Runs or by 26 Runs
England Run rate was 9.3
Pakistan Run rate was 6.8
therefore Pakistan has a net run rate of -2.5
so 'll need to beat netherlands by something like 1.4 on Run rate
for example if it's a twenty overs match, if netherlands scores 130, Pakistan 'll need to chase them in about 16.3 overs (17 precisely)
if Pakistan score 130 from twenty overs, Pakistan 'll 've to restrict netherlands for about i guess 102 Runs
if Pakistan score 150, then they've to restrict netherlands on 122
these are rough calculations
i might 'll be wrong, but that's what i understood

Pakistan's batting was poor
fielding was worst
bowling was sometimes ok, sometimes poor & sometimes good
but actually fielding was main reason behind defeat
& i don't know if anyone 'll agreed with me, BUTT was behind first 3 wickets
he has no idea of how to hit a ball
don't know why they took him with them to England
even in the last worldcup, he kept missing balls & Imran Nazir had to score & he continuely failed, when they kicked Butt out & Hafeez came in the side, Imran started playing well
this BUTT guy is selfish
i know selectors couldn't pick Imran Nazir cuz of the stupid ICL prob, but don't even know why they didn't pick Muhammad Hafeez
he's good enough, better hitter than Butt, better fielder & can bowl too

but apart from this, ENGLAND Played Well, really felt for them, cuz home side should just never go out in the first round, but i hoped Pakistan to reach near the score, England's entry in the Super 8's is confirmed, now Pakistan are under pressure, but we'll not 've a team like Pakistan to play against :D, who gives many chances to an under pressure side
very difficult for us to go to the next round
the day Netherlands beat England, first feeling i got was, Pakistan out of the tournament
it's same as in 2007 cricket world cup when ireland & zimbabwe played a draw match
i could see it coming
