This is a ****ing joke. How can Fed lose 2 sets to this muppet?

Dire.
Are you serious Burgey? Del Potro is an out and out gun, and he showed why tonight. Just too inexperienced to get over the line.

What a champion Federer was to fight back. Having a crazy tournament.

Great night of tennis.

Watch out for Del Potro to be seriously challenging the "main four" very soon.

In some ways yeah, but I don't see how Soderling, or anyone for that matter could serve any better than Del Potro did in the first three sets here.
Soderling's serving in the first two sets was just as good tbh. And he didn't even need to crack 215km/h+ (which he can).

Mind you, obviously Gonzo is no Fed on return, but still.

3-3... if Federer was playing at his best,we wouldnt even be in a fifth set...
Del Potro didn't let him play at his best. Because he was walloping the ball unlike Federer had seen. Consistently beating him on the longer rallies.

Annoying me how he's not being given his due here.

You know what was amazing tonight? Roger's drop shots, and squash shots.

So good, and he does it at the clutch too. Freakish. No one else can do that sort of stuff.

Nah man, he was superb. I couldn't believeFed went from a 5-0 record without losing a set to being two sets to one down.
Del Potro was awesome. If he'd been playing anyone else, I'd probably have wanted him to win.

Two amazing semis though - imagine if you had tickets - what a ****ing rollercoaster day!

Would have been nuts.

Worth asking if the French and US Open have a better set-up than the Aust Open and Wimbledon, by having a 'super Friday' (Saturday for US Open) and have the men's semis on the same day.

Or perhaps its better to share the love.

Reckon the US and French are better tbh. Also gives the same recovery time (roughly) for both finalists.
Soderling a real chance on Sunday. If he takes out Rafa and Roge to win his 1st Slam, well suffice to say he'll have earned it.
Would be mega.

Why? Emotionally may be, but not on quality.

Fed himself has had far better runs.
I gotta disagree.

Winning a GS without dropping a set is nothing compared to what Federer's achieved thus far. When you think about how many times he's capitulated over the past year, to step up like that against an outstanding young player, with all the pressure on you to win a tournament where upsets are happening daily -- that was huge.

If he wins this GS, I'd say he's a far greater champion than he ever was before, because he simply hasn't won under these circumstances to date.

Interesting take on it mate. I certainly don't doubt he'll value this as much as any other should he win it.

Apologies, I actually read your post as the "Best Grand Slam run ever" rather than his, but that being said, I still think considering the 3 top seeds have been knocked out for him (including the best player in the world), its not his best.

As I said, emotionally it may be more satisfying win than most others (if he does it), particularly since its the only title he doesn't have.

But surely the 'best GS run' he had was Wimbledon 2007. Had his throne legitimately challenged by his arch rival, and for the first time ever, looked like he was going to lose. He then saved break points throughout the fifth set and won like a champion does.
