And the less said about Surrey, the better.

Chris Adams might be already wondering what he's let himself in for.

Never in doubt! Us and Essex should really cruise this group, but I can see us messing up against Derbyshire, especially if Law is playing
Yes fully expect those two teams to shape up as the sides to beat. Essex certainly, and will take some performance from another county to stop them regaining the FP Trophy. Availability of Bopara and Napier may also play its part.

Just as many single out Saj Mahmood whenever he delivers any slightly below par performances, I'd like to say that it sounded like he did a very decent job for Lancs today, 3-38 off 9 overs is an impressive effort and pegged Northants back to a very chaseable target. Well done Saj! Paul Horton did his bit also witha ton, developing into a very useful batsman.

While reflecting on the scores from County cricket from the past week or two, I noticed what a good start to the season most keepers have enjoyed with the bat. In the CC Div 1, Tim Ambrose, Craig Kieswetter, Nic Pothas, Steven Davies, and Chris Read have already all made centuries, while Phil Mustard and Gerard Brophy have also made decent starts. In Div 2, Mark Wallace and Geraint Jones have also both made tons. James Foster will presumably add one aswell before too long.

With plenty of these being English qualified, it just adds that little extra bit of pressure onto the man currently in possession of the national gloves, Matt Prior, who has made a 50 in the FP Trophy, and 4 & 0 in the CC. Early days yet though.

Looking pretty grim outside here in Manchester and its set to continue this way most of the week, certainly the forecast for Thursday looks dreadful and there's predicted to be rain on every day..could be a draw this week, tough game anyway would probably take a draw

Yes grim at the minute, I believe the rain is scheduled to clear today, although it will supposedly return tomorrow. Wednesday looks a decent day mind.

Yes, Kaneria is due into England tomorrow, and should be available for the County Championship game against Kent on Wednesday. Good news.
I vaguely follow Essex and have no doubt that he will do well and take wickets regardless of whether it is wet or dry. Westfield, who has been injury prone, came with superb returns against West Indies in the tour match - look forward to seeing how he progresses through the season.

I spent today with Graham Gooch (part of a coaching day / guided tour of Lord's) and he spoke very highly of the Essex youngsters. In particular Chambers who he rates very very highly, and also Westfield.

What specifically does he say about Chambers, I hear a lot about him but rarely get specifics.

That he's quick and will get quicker and is a "serious bowler". And that he's a very impressive physical specimen.

From what I've seen, he is 78-82mph, but people keep yapping on about the pace, something which intrigues me, to no end. He does look like an athlete though, got a bounding approach and action, flies through the crease with fluidity.

Essex have always been my side, despite me living in Manchester. When you are one of three brothers, we always had to choose to different sides and unfortunately our local side, Lancs, was gone, although I do follow them also.

Kaneria is a real bonus player, a bowler capable of match winning returns, and season long availability from here on.

Westfield I would like to see more of, and I agree with you on Chambers, people do talk up his pace, but from what I have seen so far, which admittedly is not vast amounts, he looks relatively lively at best, however, there is probably much more to come from him and he does seem to have the physique.

The game on the M5 is on sky from today for all you tax dodgers, though I'm not sure how much play they will get today.

Unless he is only 15 lol, that isn't very quick.

I mean thats only about 130 Kph, I hardly play and I've been clocked at 126.4 PB.

Finalised my fantasy team after a bit of deliberation.

Horton
Redfern
Van Jaarsveld
Du Plessis
Ten Doeschate
Bresnan*
Wallace
Clare
T Smith (Lancs)
Mason
Kaneria

massive Lancs bias but meh, Du Plessis should do better this year and is in decent form, Smith is batting up the order and Horts should carry on merrilly despite last week. Redfern should play every game and do okay and at his price is a bargain. Ten Doeschate a bargain too. A bit worried about Clare but Mason should get plenty of gametime with Jones out indefinitely and Kabir currently out.
