Evermind

International Debutant
Mitchell Johnson is a better batsman than Sachin, Lara, Ponting and Chanderpaul.

Here are his stats

- Test batting average : 85
- Tests per 100 : 3 and this inspite of having an unbeaten 90 every three Tests as well
- Tests per Fifty+ score : 1.5
- Strike Rate : 84.7/100 balls

Only Bradman beats him on the first three and even the Don cant touch him when you add the 4th !!

Its just that he did not play to his full potential till 26th Feb 2009

He is one of the all time greatest batsmen ..... even if he again does not play to his full potential from now onwards
Was gonna prove how Jason Gillespie > Johnson and Bradman COMBINED but...you know how that goes - do it mentally.

Ponting ahead of Sachin by 6 votes doesn't make sense.
I am more Sachin fan then Ponting but I still think Ponting is little better then Sachin in Tests.

In ODI... it's rape.

Dire thread, much as you could make an argument for including Chanderpaul in a test team ahead of the other 3 (albeit an extremely weak argument), comparing Shiv to Tendulkar in ODIs is blasphemy.

BTW, went for Lara in tests based on the fact he is the one who I enjoyed watching the most.

With all due respect, as good as Chanderpaul is, he's not in the same bracket as the other 3. As far as current and recent times go, those three are in their own bracket above everyone else.

As for the initial question, I can't really decide.

He is above them - chanderpaul is superior to lara, ponting and sachin.

He has developped into a remarkable player - all the other three has flaws, chanderpaul has none.

Ponting vs Sachin vs Lara in Tests could go any way, depending on my whim.

I've voted Lara in this thread, largely because Lara was my first cricketing icon.

In ODIs there's no contest. The only batsman you can make a convincing case for being better than Tendulkar is Viv Richards.

i have to agree with this remarkable observation wholeheartedly. chanderpaul's wife has assured everyone that he wears the perfect body spray. havent heard that from lara, sachin and ricky's partners.i am sure they stink of sweat.

LOL.

Feel vindicated in my initial scornful response. Not much more annoying than loaded poll questions designed to boost the originaters favourite players, esp. When they then get shirty that no one agrees.

Shiv, as a batsman, isn't in Ponting, let alone Lara or Sachin's class. If you want to compare one guys peak against other players whole careers, then good luck to you.
