in a game where there is chance for rain you should take batting power play early ..not that it would have changed much here

What is it back on?The rain should've just continued on. At least the loss would've been dignified.

India fully deserve this whopping victory. Games with rain should not be played at all if reduced to less than 30 overs, we have seen how the D/L method can ruin series like the NZ v Windies one and the Aussie v NZ series which the last game was close to being completed. No doubt India would have won by some margin no matter what in this game though. Good to see them put up a decent fight and dominance in an ODI in NZ.
I think the summer's been great. No complaints here.

To be fair it's been a while since he's played - and he ran into Hurricane Sehwag first match back.

Yeah, I wasn't criticizing the guy. Was just saying that it shows how good a bowler he is that it's very rare these days that he goes for heaps of runs against any batting lineup.
As you say, Sehway is one of those batsmen that can destroy anyone and those short-as square boundaries which play to Sehwag's strength don't help.

Yeah, really hoping the rest of the series is *somehow* rain-free. I felt dirty when NZ won against the Windies in rain-reduced games (even if the rain had arguably cost us other games we would have won), would have felt similar if we'd won the C-H series on the back of the 5th 'ODI' in Australia, and imagine many Indian fans feel similar about this not-quite-ODI win.
Having said that, India really did dominate the match and deserved to win. NZ never recovered from the combination of an in-form Sehwag and out-of-sorts Mills and the Indian batting was outstanding to not let the advantage slip. Backing Mills to be bounce back in the next game though.

Two wrap it up quickly, Sachin and Sehwag got a good partnership, until one of Butler's better deliveries got Sachin out. Butler was surprisingly tight, and the Indians treated him with a lot of respect, as much as they did Vettori, who put up another impressive spell. Dhoni continued to show his superiority as a limited-overs batsman, batting intelligently to score 84 and stay not out. Raina's batting was phenomenal, given how he got stuck into Vettori, and his innings had four sixes. Sehwag's innings, initially, was looking like converting to a century, but was halted by an extraordinary catch by Ross Taylor. Kyle Mills and Iain O'Brien, their top bowlers after Vettori, had a bad day- Mills was coming out of injury with several full-tosses and short-and-wides, though O'Brien was very fast and smart. There were, however, a few blips here. Sachin was out cheaply, though it wasn't a factor at all. Likewise, Yuvraj Singh was run out, after a scratchy start. Yusuf had virtually nothing to do, while Gambhir was only needed to take a catch.
The Indians bowled well in their innings, with Zaheer keeping it tight and Praveen getting the most out of a few risks taken. They, however, tapered a little as the ball got older, with both Munaf and Praveen struggling. Yusuf Pathan had a good set of four overs, but was again taken out too early, even as Yuvraj bowled six overs of utter rubbish- emphasised by Dan going after him- a case too little, too late. Harbhajan, however, was a revelation, struggling with a wet ball, to take three quick wickets to stifle the Kiwis and dig deep into their batting lineup. The Kiwis' middle-order caving in was quite a surprise. There was, yet again, one weakness, with Munaf looking a tad unimpressive.
Dhoni's captaincy was largely good, though questions were asked about his decision to bat first. He did, however, have a reason, with rain being a factor, and expected the unpredictable rain rule to change the course of the match. The decision to promote himself to three and Yusuf to six, leaving out Gambhir, was a masterstroke. Not only did he back it up with that massive innings, the innings also had a neat finish. His bowling changes, however, still leave a lot to be desired. Yuvraj got too many overs, when his batting itself was a matter of minute concern, when they could have been given to the struggling Munaf, the under-used Yusuf or the much-superior Harbhajan. With Ishant Sharma likely to return, things are getting a little better, but Wellington has a larger ground and the batsmen need to tighten up- and should concentrate on their batting. The Indians were aided by rain and a controversial rain rule, and should try to win the next match on their own.
