Though unlike anyone else Symonds has already made plenty of mistakes, he is no youngster anymore who is trying to get himself adjusted with all the pros and cons of being a celebrity, but rather then doing that, he apologieses for it and promises to be stay out of trouble, but he just fails to do it.

As Gelman said its pretty mind-boggling why he would like to call someone a lump of ****, especially when there has been no provocation whatsoever from the other end, though its not the worst jibe out there but still its was in pretty poor form and completly unacceptable, i have been one of the biggest fans of Symonds as a cricketer, but he has made it a habit to get involved in one controversy after another and tbh i have had enough with him and his apologies.
Hmm yes, the "straw that broke the camel's back" hypothesis, there's a case for that. But of all the things he's done- turning up for training drunk, refusing to accept Ed Smith's captaincy, missing a team meeting and decking someone in a pub- this is the least serious IMO.

It's a bit like when Shoaib smacked Asif with a bat and got nothing, then called a **** cricket board **** and got five years.

Why do you compare Roy's case with Harby's? Harby slapped Sree for something uncharitable uttered by Sree, both are fools. The incident happened off the field. And they settled the matter between themselves, Sree withdrew his complaint, and Harby got docked his IPL million and an ODI series ban. Fair enough. And Harby has hardly been in the news since then for wrong reasons.

Symonds on the other hand has gone from bad to worse in terms of misdemeanour.

Hardly comparable.
And, of course, that's Harby's only indiscretion isn't it?

Yeah that exactly is my POV, the whole gone fishing thing was too diabolical, it was an incident that shouldn't even have come out of the team dressing-room AFAIC, but the way it was handled and blow out of proportion was ridiculous, in a way Symonds was being punished for his previous mistakes, but that's just now it works.

I said this earlier in this thread when the whole gone fishing thing took place, Symonds should have been sent home from the English tour the moment he turned drunk for that game at Cardiff, i mean that sort of thing shows zero commitment on the part of a player towards his team,who knows had he been punished adequately then, all the incidents that took place after that during the course of time might have been avoided, as a result i think Symonds has grown into a bit of pampered brat, who feels he has these protective figures in Clarke, Ponting and Hayden to save his arse whenever he does something wrong, but obviously they too can't keep covering up for him time and again, and that's something Symonds should have understood a long time ago.

Coz he was on Roy & HG mate. It's not 60 Minutes (it's better BTW).

Bare in mind these are the blokes who:
- got Pat Rafter to declare a feud "To the Grave" with Phillipousis while on TV during the 2000 Olympics (in jest btw);
- asked Gary Hall Jnr if he'd tried any Aussie Weed and did he like it;
- delivered a diatribe which basically put the ANZUS Alliance in jeopardy when they said all Americans are arse holes in groups of more than two, and when they celebrated NZ's first gold medal in Sydney 2000 in the individual sculls by saying "Just shows Kiwis do their best work sitting down going backwards";
- developed their own Olympic mascot in Sydney, being a fat-arsed Wombat, and when said mascot was banned from official events by the IOC, said "Well, we're gonna try it on. And the IOC can get stuffed!"

The problem for people when they go on that show is that they try (and in most cases like Symonds fail) to be as funny as the hosts. I'm not justifying him, but it sets the tone for his silly attempt at "humour"

I still think Symonds is the best option Australia have. Never mind all the stupid off-field issues.

He won't play test again. This is just what the selectors needed to get him out of the test match calculations so in the future (god help is fitness), Watson can be eased back into the side.

He is still part of the ODI calculations though. So its all good.

Was adding to the long CA hate list stuff.
Maybe you should think things through then before commenting on them, then.

Cricket Australia has absolutely nothing to do with the awarding of the Allan Border Medal. They do not cast any of the votes for the AB, and have nothing to do with the awarding of any of the medals that evening.

If Symonds fails to fix himself up then i am sorry to say we might not see him in Aussie colours ever again.

I just hope Sutherland stops giving statements regarding him that make him sound like a psychotic on the lose, who needs to be put into some sort of rehab.

Symonds really is a free-spirit who is stuck in the wrong place, things like political correctiveness or diplomacy haven't been his strong points and that's why he ends up looking like such idiot most of the times, but what he really needs to decide now is whether he wants to play for Australia anymore.

If he wants to and focused about it, then he is as good a player Australia currently have, but if wants to pursue his other hobbies like fishing, getting sloshed, talking crap, etc rather than concentrating on his game, then he is better off not wasting his, his psychologist' and Australian cricket' time.
