I agree. But most of the image that has created since his Indian woes has been a media fabrication though.If Symonds fails to fix himself up then i am sorry to say we might not see him in Aussie colours ever again.
I just hope Sutherland stops giving statements regarding him that make him sound like a psychotic on the lose, who needs to be put into some sort of rehab.
Symonds really is a free-spirit who is stuck in the wrong place, things like political correctiveness or diplomacy haven't been his strong points and that's why he ends up looking like such idiot most of the times, but what he really needs to decide now is whether he wants to play for Australia anymore.
If he wants to and focused about it, then he is as good a player Australia currently have, but if wants to pursue his other hobbies like fishing, getting sloshed, talking crap, etc rather than concentrating on his game, then he is better off not wasting his, his psychologist' and Australian cricket' time.
Isn't it an award recognised by CA? I'm assuming the HOF would have been done in conjunction with CA.Maybe you should think things through then before commenting on them, then.
Cricket Australia has absolutely nothing to do with the awarding of the Allan Border Medal. They do not cast any of the votes for the AB, and have nothing to do with the awarding of any of the medals that evening.
Coz he was on Roy & HG mate. It's not 60 Minutes (it's better BTW).
Bare in mind these are the blokes who:
- got Pat Rafter to declare a feud "To the Grave" with Phillipousis while on TV during the 2000 Olympics (in jest btw);
- asked Gary Hall Jnr if he'd tried any Aussie Weed and did he like it;
- delivered a diatribe which basically put the ANZUS Alliance in jeopardy when they said all Americans are arse holes in groups of more than two, and when they celebrated NZ's first gold medal in Sydney 2000 in the individual sculls by saying "Just shows Kiwis do their best work sitting down going backwards";
- developed their own Olympic mascot in Sydney, being a fat-arsed Wombat, and when said mascot was banned from official events by the IOC, said "Well, we're gonna try it on. And the IOC can get stuffed!"
The problem for people when they go on that show is that they try (and in most cases like Symonds fail) to be as funny as the hosts. I'm not justifying him, but it sets the tone for his silly attempt at "humour"
Ponting has his back and tbh most of mates still like him, despite him letting them down on several occasions, but more importantly i don't think Ponting anymore has the backing of the selectors or influential people within Cricket Australia, when it comes to matter like these.I agree. But most of the image that has created since his Indian woes has been a media fabrication though.
I think Ponting still has his back, but if doesn't play for Australia especially in ODIs again it will be nonsense.
Almost every form of the game? That would mean... ODI's and T20's, right?I don't think Symonds should be categorised as an ODI or T20 player only, because as i said if he fixes himself, then he is a real assest and match-winner for Australia in almost every form of the game, its only his mental focus that's the problem atm.
Yeah but Aussie in a way is saying he would be okay with it if he doesn't play test cricket again for Australia, but he should play in limited overs cricket for Aus.Almost every form of the game? That would mean... ODI's and T20's, right?
To be fair, hardly anyone seriously likes ice hockey unless they're somehow affiliated with Canada.Spot the American.
"Things are alright if we can fights, lol"
Yes, but how can you blame CA for Ponting winning the AB Medal?Isn't it an award recognised by CA? I'm assuming the HOF would have been done in conjunction with CA.
All this seperate from the actual voting etc.
I never did tbh.Yes, but how can you blame CA for Ponting winning the AB Medal?
Disagree, if Symonds isn't bowling usefully then there's players more deserving of a shot in the test side.Yeah but Aussie in a way is saying he would be okay with it if he doesn't play test cricket again for Australia, but he should play in limited overs cricket for Aus.
My point is if Symonds starts scoring runs for Queensland and sorts out his issues then he is an equally valuable player for Australia in test cricket, as he would be in T20 or ODI cricket.
Count me in.Could we change the name of this thread? To 'The Life and Times of Andrew Symonds'
Tbh Symonds isn't useful with anything baring his fielding atm, and that shows where he stands currently in terms of his cricket and focus.Disagree, if Symonds isn't bowling usefully then there's players more deserving of a shot in the test side.
I mean these are the sort of things that really irritate me, now what the hell is Sutherland trying to do here by talking all this nonsense, these are the exact same things he said before Symonds made his comeback in the test series against NZ.Andrew Symonds is showing "all the right signals" about coming back strong following his suspension from the South Africa tour, according to Cricket Australia's chief executive James Sutherland. Symonds met with senior Cricket Australia officials in Melbourne on Thursday to outline his way back from a disrupted season, which began with him missing the tour of India due to his off-field behaviour.
However, Sutherland said Symonds had already made "significant progress" and he was confident it would continue. "I don't think he is under illusions as to where he is up to," Sutherland said in the Age. "What was very clear to me in the room [on Thursday] was that everyone was very supportive of him, and very focused on one thing, and that is getting Andrew Symonds back on deck with a fantastic foundation to make sure he can make a big contribution to Australian cricket."
Symonds' counsellors were also at the meeting and Sutherland said Symonds was looking forward. "There is absolutely no doubt about that," he said. "He knows he has, over the next few weeks, a fantastic opportunity to prove that he is back and ready to go and that's not only in the context of what he needs to do with Queensland Cricket, but also in working with the people who are helping him with some of his off-field issues."
Queensland have picked Symonds in their matches against Victoria and South Australia next week. He made his comeback from knee surgery in a Sheffield Shield game at the Gabba, scoring 5 and 3, but was not considered for the tour of South Africa due to his off-field troubles, which included being fined A$4000 for a radio interview targeting Brendon McCullum.
"Andrew is making all the right signals," Sutherland said. "I have a pretty clear understanding of what he has been through over the past couple of months and what he is working on and there is some quite significant progress he has made. I'm confident that can continue."

CA have to want to break up with Symonds.It's like that girlfriend you just can't seem to break up with.
