They would do well to drop someone like McKenzie and make Botha bat in his place and pick either Parnell or Van Jaarsveld instead of him, McKenzie has the tendency to get stuck and suck all the momentum out of the innings, and that's not the kind of batsman you wat in your middle order.

Especially when the required run rate has already leapt up to about nine.

Parnell is meant to be able to handle a bat but they had him listed for #11 the other night.

I think De Villiers should open with Gibbs and Duminy should bat at 4, and there is no way Albie Morkel should bat as low as he is batting atm.

There has also been a lot of talk about Johan Botha being pretty good with the bat, so is there a case for him to bat in the middle order?
Re: Botha in the middle order: a definite NO.

SA ODI Lineup (When Smith comes back)

Smith (In this series Amla can play here)
de Villiers
Kallis
Duminy
van Jaarsveld (Give the kid a chance; he reminds me of the young Kallis - he'll make it)
A Morkel
Boucher
Parnell
Botha
Steyn

Now this is only 10, but we have 3 bowlers and 3 allrounders (if you include Duminy, which I am because he is underrated as a bowler). Should we play anohter batsman, or M Morkel maybe?

They could always play AB as keeper which helps their flexibility, but then again he's one of their few fieldsmen up to international standard. Morne Morkel seems on the outer, they never trust him with the new ball and they rotate him out. I wonder if they have another bowler back home who can replace him. I think he disappoints them; has had a b it of a nightmare tour.

Kinda glad I was away all day and couldn't watch by the sounds of things. Was fuming that Hauritz didn't play, and that Hopes was basically used as a specialist bowler again. Hopes is a good fill-in option, but afaic if he's not opening the batting, he shouldn't be in the team.

Would find it more understandable, but obviously still not ideal. When of Symonds gets back, the only place in the team for him then should be as a short term opener imo, if that spot hasn't already been filled by say Warner or even M Hussey (not that I want Hussey up the order, but it looks like the selectors/Nielsen/Ponting see it as likely option).

I could understand Hopes at 7, and Haddin at 6.
As i said before they gotta make up their mind on White, he is a top-order batsman, and he takes times to get set and going, his current role in the team is to go out and tonk the ball from the start something he is clearly not comfortable with, and bowl a few overs every now and then (which again is something he isn't too good at), so clearly having Hopes bat at 7 and picking Haurtiz instead White makes sense, Hauritz is a decent bat and with him coming into the side the 5th bowler problem too gets solved.

Anyways what did you guys make of Harris, i think he was too patchy today, i guess it might have had something to do with nerves, but i expected Harris to bowl much better than he did, always have rated him as a pretty decent fast bowler, and switch to Queensland has also seemed to have done him a lot of good, but he was disappointing today.

I criticise Channel 9 a lot, but I have to give credit where it's due. They played a wee bit of Arcade Fire today. Kudos.

Just watching the highlights now. Morkel's catch, anyone? Did he have full control before he grounded it?

Hussey minor must be a live chance for the test squad soon shortly too. Very useful cricketer, his offies look far better than his FC record suggests as well.

& this is one for the English posters: Ryan Harris's action looks a ringer for Ronnie Irani's to my eyes. Is it just me?

Yeah, I reckon he had control over it. He holds onto it, and there are some replay views where you can see him firmly holding onto it, and basically throwing it out after a couple of seconds.

Im pretty sure mrkle had it. He literally threw it away afterwards i think in the replays it was quite easy to see he had control.

It probably was ok, but doing it so quickly and rolling it on the deck rather than throwing it up is asking for trouble IMHO.

McKenzie a waste of a place as an ODI player too. Doesn't suit his style of batting and his shell of Punter was pretty shocking at this level. Not his first bollock in Oz either.

McKenzie is a waste in most forms of the game.

Unless playing domestic than he could be alright.

The second incarnation of Ronnie Irani, yes.

Waste in all forms as far as I'm concerned he hasn't done enough to keep himself even in the test side.He is riding his luck on a couple good knocks.

Shocking after the finale to the last match to see two South African batsmen struggle to get the ball off the square while Albie Morkel looks on from the bench in disgust. It baffles me that Australia even celebrated Duminy's wicket.

Oh, and Bracken's so, sooo good.
