Cricket team draft

Yeah, liking how your team is shaping up, and after you use your two-in-a-row picks, no doubt it will look even better. Been finally appreciating Kallis to the extent he's probably mostly always deserved through this series - WAG. Any team with Hutton and Kallis as the core of their batting should be ok for runs and Murali will always take wickets.

There are some monster teams forming up here. People have been rightfully pointing at Jamee's, and some even kind enough to mention my own, but Somerset, Simon and Michaelf77777's are shaping up very nicely indeed, and Morgeib will probably end up rueing not taking his picks when he had the chance, as what he has picked to date has been top notch.
pskov has a great team too.

McGrath, Holding, Pollock as the bowlers.
Hobbs, Compton, SWaugh as the batters.

Rohan Kanhai

This may seem a strange pick, but Kanhai was a good wicketkeeper in his youth, and kept on several occasions at first-class level. Hence, I'll be spending the rest of the selection time attempting to convince him to keep wickets to my bowling line up.

He should enjoy it... Hopefully.

EDIT: Just looked him up on cricinfo and for his first 3 tests, he kept wicket as well.

1.
2.
3. (Kanhai may bat here, given he had most success at #3, depending on the final line up
4. Graeme Pollock LHB, Ave = 60.97, LBG - 4 wkts @ 51.00
5. Rohan Kanhai (wk) RHB, Ave = 47.53
6.
7.
8. Peter Pollock RHB, Ave = 21.67, RHF - 116 wkts @ 24.18
9. Johnny Wardle LHB, Ave = 19.78, SLA - 102 wkts @ 20.39
10. Curtly Ambrose LHB, Ave = 12.40, RHF - 405 wkts @ 20.99
11. Frank Tyson RHB, Ave = 10.95, RHF - 76 wkts @ 18.56

Will probably run with Vettori at 7 to be honest, Healy at 6. That may be a bit high for Healy, but oh well.

To be honest if I were you I would probably bat Benaud at 6 seeing as he did do a good job in the Australian top order (can't quite remember if he was number 3 or 4) following the 1956 Australian tour of England and prior to him gaining the Australian captaincy.

Alternatively you could try and get a 3rd quick who is good enough to bat in the top 6 alrthough most of the picks which would be good for this would be gone.

If I were you I would bat them in the following order:
Benaud
Hadlee
Healy
Vettori

Heath, Kanhai is a very good pick. I was looking for ages at him, but decided against him which works out good for both of us.

I need a top order batsman someone who can be a wall against the best quicks of all time.

My player has been a tremendous cricketer for a long period and hopefully everyone remembers the good times and not just his recent form.

Averaging over 50 and the last player chosen who has scored over 10 000 Test runs.

Rahul Dravid.is my choice.

Hoping that like in Computer games my team chemistry rises now that I have both Sachin and Rahul.

So long till my next pick and the player I have in mind is crucial, I kind of regret not taking him this round now, but I didnt want to be going into this stage of the picking still needing two fast bowlers.

Haha damn. When I was doing all my gibber about being torn between two players it was Harvey and Dravid I was talking about. Obviously I made my choice, but still not convinced I definitely made the right one.

Harvey was the better pick for mine, pretty similar rep, but Harvey might give you more room to move in a couple of rounds time as I imagine you could use him as an opener or a number 3 so depending on what is left in those departments later you have more options.

It would be a massive risk opening with Harvey as he never ever opened in Test Cricket.
I don't think these are the sort of teams to picking someone out of position.

hmm your right, not sure why I thought he did, I wonder who I'm thinking of.

tbh I was contemplating selecting Dravid as a possible opener. I know it didn't work in Australia but I think that more to do with his form than his ability to do the role. If he was in form he has the game to cope as an opener.

I'm going to keep Dravid at number 3 almost definitely as a heap of good openers haven't been picked yet, although I expect them to start getting picked shortly.

Dravid's stats after a pretty large sample are just not good enough as a opener, while as a number 3 he's been one of the best of all time. No brainer for me, unless everyone goes crazy now with opening batsman.

Was hoping for Kanhai to drop to me all the way. Not sure I would have used him as a keeper though the option would've been very tempting, but either way he would have slotted in nicely into my middle order.
