Cricket team draft

Thought carefully about Sir Frank. In the end though it came down to two players that I've gone back and forth on a lot - very different players but equally valuable to their line ups.

I've gone for Neil Harvey. His final average is a bit low for the company that we've seen to date, but it not only remained >50 for 69 out of his 79 tests, it was >60 for the first 60 of those 79 tests, only sliding down in the twilight of his very long career.

Besides the stats, it was Harvey's ability to score runs in all conditions, and especially when the rest of his team could not cope with the bowling or conditions that marks him as exceptional in my eyes - innings like his efforts versus Frank Tyson at his fastest and Fazul Mahmoud on dodgy matting wickets.

Plus his "diss everything post 1960" ability makes him an invaluable sledger in this kind of multi-generational exercise.

Team so far:
Hammond
Chappell, G
Harvey
Imran
Waqar
O'Reilly

Simon is generally only on during work hours. Reckon we should give him until Monday morning as he'll def be on then, and won't have been on since things started moving again.

Lucky I can also come on Sunday's so its all good, Anyway had a tough time deciding between a batsman and a bowler for this pick, in the end ive gone with a second quick bowler. Even then there are a couple of quicks left with similar careers and reputations, as it stands I'm picking Wes Hall

International 12th Man
69 players selected so far and their is a distinct bias to the more recent day. Understandable considering a) more cricket between more countries, thus involving more players, has been played as time goes on and b) a natural inclination to select players we have seen ourselves or on tv/internet clips. Or you could just presuppose that the 1970s and 1990s were indeed the best decades of cricket ever, and that the 1960s were boring as lots of people have remarked.

Decade made test debut

1900s 1
1910s 0
1920s 6
1930s 4
1940s 8
1950s 6
1960s 2
1970s 16
1980s 8
1990s 15
2000s 3

Decade played final test

1930s 6
1940s 3
1950s 8
1960s 8
1970s 4
1980s 7
1990s 10
2000s 14
Still playing 10

I wonder if this trend will continue or if as we go along, and we are perhaps forced to pick players we are less familiar with, it will balance out.

I'm not sure, but I think the trend will continue and players from the last 20-30 years will more likely fill out a number of the last few positions in each persons team.

In saying that, it might be a good tactic to pick heaps of players from a reasonably untapped era, like say the 1960s for instance.

Perfect. If I was playing this game I would have been licking my lips seeing that opportunity...(I mean not necessarily the 1960s, but any untapped era)...

Dissapointing amount of skips, in both this and the ODI. I get that it's the holiday season, but it's a 5 minute job if you want it to be...

Comes from having too many people imo, both should have been limited to about 10 people each so that the interest is always there. Particuarly with the ODI one there are so many people its so long between picks.

6.07 - Geoffrey Boycott

This guy doesn't do getting out. Grinds, grinds, then grinds some more, and never gives away his wicket. Could have got many more runs if he'd played all the time, not sitting out around 30 Tests in his prime!

8114 runs @ 47.72

Team so far:

Geoffrey Boycott
Ricky Ponting
Ken Barrington
Malcolm Marshall
Joel Garner
Allan Donald

I think I will go for a second spinner in John Briggs, who was a left arm orthodox bowler, who took 2221 first class wickets @ 15.95 and 118 test wickets @ 17.75. Also scored a test century, and 10 first class century, a very handy batsmen.

My team so far:
Hadlee
Lara
Hussey
Healy
Vettori
Briggs

Very bad side at the moment, especially compared to some.

I love Jamee's team.

Almost every round he's picked the player I was going to pick.

Nah the issue is just that people don't go on daily and those that do can't always log in at seperate times during the day. If everyone could log in at the start and end of the day it wouldn't be a problem at all.

its mainly because of timezones I presume, when you consider theres around 12 hour block where the majority of people wouldnt be able to post each day it makes it hard to have it flowing, also if there were fewer people then obviously we would be relying on less people to be consistently active.
