Can Steyn test the aussies ?

I don't see South Africa beating us - nor Steyn causing us much trouble. I get the feeling if any bowler will be the key, it will be Morne Morkel.

No doubt the Saffers will talk themselves up something chronic in the lead up to the series, though.
Personally, I think he'll average in excess of 45 for the series. Even amongst his most magical demolitions of teams he's had the ability to bowl really poor overs which release the pressure and given the lack of swing in Australia I don't think he'll consistently threaten here.

He may bowl a testing spell or two with the new ball but I don't see him demolishing the middle order or being a sustained threat throughout the innings. He certainly has the ability to prove me wrong on this one but I think he'll leak runs and struggle with the conditions.
Don't think Steyn will do too much myself over here. Over in South Africa it could be a different story.
I agree with Wrighty on this, can't see him doing much in Australia given the Aussie conditions may not really suit his style of bowling, i expect likes of Morkel and Ntini to be more dangerous in Australia despite them not showing any serious form in recent times, but Steyn can't be written off completely either, if he can get that new ball to swing he can cause some damage, but playing in South Africa would be very different, he bowls very well there and it would be a huge test for the Aussies to overcome his threat there.
Time to revisit your statements.

Will be hard to dispute his status as outright best fast bowler in the world if he does well in Aus.
Pretty certain that Steyn can and will test the Aussies.
Word out, very surprised to see some reckoning he will be blasted by Australia.

For all the talk of how Steyn will bowl againts the Aussies, Kallis being the key etc. The big moments of those 6 tests will be how Matthew Hayden plays.

Making runs againts Steyn/Ntini/Morkel should before the Ashes will be the first step in laying to rest any doubts anyone has about his credentials as one of the games great openers.
Aye, so true.

if sport were a certainty why would anyone watch? Incorrect predictions, some based on previous data and some on gut feel are bound to happen. Your need to bring these up reflects more upon yourself than perhaps those who originally posted

All I said is to revisit their statements, and whether they are prepared to change their view points. I don't know why you are so affected by it.

If you have a look at the seamers who have actually done well in Australia against Australian batsmen in the last few years, it's mainly been the consistent types who keep the pressure on and enjoy the extra bounce. Collymore, Flintoff, Dillon, Nel, Ntini, Sharma etc have all looked the most threatening, even if without the results to show for it, than those you'd consider to be "strike" bowlers such as Malinga.

And he has. Well done.

AWTA. Pretty tool-ish behaviour exhibited by those with a need to bring up that others predicted wrongly. Everyone gets stuff wrong all the time, especially with sport.

Agreed, smacks of someone full of jealously of Australia who's been waiting for years to put to boot in tbh.

Not even close. And am not a Aussie supporter? Go read my last posts. I am pretty much a fan of Steyn as am of Australia. Next please.

I think what most of the posters said here still stands true, we all predicted that Steyn would struggle on the Aussie pitches minus the swing, and he certainly did have a torrid time at Perth, at the G he was able to swing it, maybe it was due to overcast conditions, but he did get that outswing going and troubled the batsmen, but having said that Aussie batsmen too played their part in it by playing some very poor shots, but then that's not really Steyn' problem.

Happy to be stood corrected then. Just seemed to me that you went out of your way to prove a number of others posts wrong. Thats what led me to that conclusion.

Haha, what bollocks. It was a good dig, it's interesting to look at what people were saying a couple of months ago. It's not like he commented on them saying "lolz wat idiotz shud giv up circket defo" or the like. I wouldn't mind if my predictions were dug, i didn't see SA's success coming (but it was less of a shock to me than India's).

Must be an Adelaide thing then.
