Playing any game of cricket before Christmas in New Zealand is a recipe for an abandoned match. It doesn't matter where it's played.

If you're lucky then maybe there will be no rain, but in most cases there is, North or South.
I'd bet on there being no interruptions in Napier. The weather down there is fantastic, almost all year round.

Test cricket can't be played under lights..not with the red ball anyway. So a roof would be irrelevant.

I'm just looking into the future as there has been some talk of day night Test matches.

I wouldn't expect a development like this to occur straight away.

I was just wondering if it was possible in any ways.

It's definitely possible. The Teltra Dome did it, so it could definitely be done here...though, I don't see it happening, even if there were day/night tests.

you saying all black people look the same :@

Jerome Taylor looks nothing like Flava Flav, maybe if he wore a clock round his neck, was in his mid-forties and had plenty of desperate females around him he might just start to look a bit like him.
lol

Just google-imaged it and I am definitely right.

A glass or see-through roof?

Wonder what that would do for pitch wear and swing?
I think better drainage facilities and total ground cover would be a better bet, so as soon as it stops raining play could comence, but as someone stated earlier the costs involved would be to much for little old New Zealand. Another idea woud be to have two spare days for pre xmas tests but tv rights would proberbly kill that idea.

So....

With Oram coming into the side as a specialist batsman, and Mills a certainty to retain his spot after that solid outing, who gets dropped from the XI?

Squad:

Mcintosh
How
Flynn
Taylor
Ryder
Oram
McCullum
Vettori
Franklin
Patel
Mills
O Brien
Gillespie

I'm starting to think to 'wait' for How to regain his form. we drop him, and then get a dasher to open for us. Temporarily, do the job like Sehwag does for India, and give him the license to put the opposition quicks off. It'll also prepare us for India's series.

Taylor fit? Hmm interesting Oram/franklin ever opened? can't do much worse than 10.

I dont know, it is a tough one. Could be Franklin, didnt do much with bat and ball, although he was unfortunate with the bat. I just think with How he needs time, he is an alright player, despite his need to always go on the front foot. I think he would've learnt from his dismissal in the first innings. If How were to go who would open, McCullum, Oram, Franklin???

Only other possibility is Mcintosh missing out, though he really didnt do all that much wrong and looked to be finding his feet, also the who will open question remains the same.

I think it would be pretty unfair if they dropped McIntosh, who scored 58 runs for once out (as opposed to How, who scored 20 and was out in both innings). Sure he didn't always look convincing, but he got the job done and should keep his place for as long as he's doing that.

AWTA. I think we might have to accept that McIntosh isnt going to be a good batsman to watch as his technique is hideous. We should therefore judge him simply on the runs he is making and he wasnt bad in the first test. Must persist with How also, he will come good.

I would go in with the same team. Oram doesnt deserve to replace anyone at present. I find it hard to believe he can bat but can't bowl because of a calf strain...it makes no sense. He is either injured and isn't playing, or he is fit and can do his job as an all-rounder. Until he gives up the bowling completely, he should only be selected as an all-rounder.

My team for the second test:

How
MacIntosh
Flynn
Taylor/Fulton
Ryder
McCullum
Franklin
Vettori
Mills
Patel/Southee
O'Brien

Gillespie should never play another test for NZ again.

It makes complete sense. I've had plenty of injuries that I was fine to bat with but couldn't bowl. Batting is infinitely easier on the body than bowling.
