If it was a back injury I would agree. I've had lots of back problems where i've been ok to bat, but couldnt bowl at all. And I am well aware batting is easier on the body than bowling, that's a bit of a no brainer. It makes complete sense. I've had plenty of injuries that I was fine to bat with but couldn't bowl. Batting is infinitely easier on the body than bowling.
I agree with that side...though if Taylor can't play (i'm sure he will) i'd rather have Broom than Fulton. My team for the second test:
How
MacIntosh
Flynn
Taylor/Fulton
Ryder
McCullum
Franklin
Vettori
Mills
Patel/Southee
O'Brien
Gillespie should never play another test for NZ again.
I'd say the same of Franklin though. If Oram can't bowl then he shouldn't be picked.
Oram is not a top five batsman. If he were included as a batsman only it would have to be at six, and that would involve dropping a bowler.Wow, whats up with all this Drop Oram Talk? Hes been one of our most solid players this year
8 Tests- 405@ 33.75.
Excluding Bangaladesh
5 Tests- 279@ 31.00
I don' think he should be dropped. but then again, I'm a huge fan of Oram, so I'm bias
Jimmy is actualy scoring more domestc runs than Oram and Fulton. He's also bowling well on flat domestic wickets. If Oram can't bowl I have no problem with Jimmy staying in the team.I'd say the same of Franklin though.
Personally I think Oram (or indeed Fulton) would offer more to the side as a specialist batsman than Franklin would offer in his current role of batting #7 and bowling slow, wide half-vollies at third change. I'm a big fan of Franklin the bowler but he's not back into proper rhythm with the ball yet so he shouldn't be in the team.
Yeah, over a period of four games or so. Franklin can certainly bat and I like him as an overall cricketer much more than I do Oram, but there's little doubt in my mind that Fulton and Oram are both much better batsmen.Jimmy is actualy scoring more domestc runs than Oram and Fulton.
His figures have been okay this season, but not really what you'd expect from a bowler of his class, even given the unusually flat early season wickets. He hasn't even been opening the bowling all the time which tells us something IMO, and if his bowling in the first Test against the West Indies was anything to go by, he's not ready yet. He's also bowling well on flat domestic wickets.
huh?It will be a great trip and we all enjoyed it a lot...........

true just saw that. Didn't notice before. So what if Taylor and Franklin are also out?:Oram is definitely out of second test - or so i hear, could be wrong
Franklin won't be out. He was pretty much fully fit at yesterday's training session. No word on where Taylor is at yet. And why do you think that rain will be a big issue? The forecast is quite good.true just saw that. Didn't notice before. So what if Taylor and Franklin are also out?:
