England calls off tour....

honestbharani

Whatever it takes!!!
Look, we can give them the security of Gods but if they are not comfortable (and it is quite understandable if they aren't), then they shouldn't be forced to tour. It is as simple as that. But given how the cricket economy works, I doubt if that is what will happen here... I just hope they get the best possible security if they do tour.

They will be given foolproof security for sure. However finally upto the players.

Simon Barnes of the TIMES says England must tour India to prove a point to the terrorists.

You do realize that there is a strong possibility that the terrorists in question were all Pakistani and were trained by groups that have supporters in the Pakistani military establishment. Obviously this needs to be proven a little more, so far there is just pieces such as a terrorist captured live and cell phone records.

If this be the case, there is a very large difference between a security cover provided by the Indian establishment and that provided by the Pakistani establishment.

BTW also check the OT thread for strong connections between the PCB establishment and one of the mafia dons wanted by Interpol for terror attacks on Mumbai.
Even if all that was true, I don't see the relevance. The attacks took place in India, so the presumed nationality of the terrorists is a moot point.

Moreover, the precedent was set, for better or worse, with the postponement of the Champions Trophy in Pakistan for "security concerns". If we tour India now, after attacks that have been reported as specifically targeting US & UK citizens, it's not only grossly unfair on Pakistan, it actually looks like hypocrisy.

Hardly proves a point. As someone in another article pointed out, it's not as if the terrorists are sitting there thinking "oh balls, the England cricket team are still touring, our Mumbai mission was a failure."

As for the England team touring anyway, well it's not what i would do, but it's up to them. We should probably remember when saying that going ahead is unfair that India most certainly =/ Pakistan. There's no death-penalty warranting blasphemy law in India, for instance. I'd far sooner put my life in the hands of the Indian army than the Pakistani one.

Would you tour if you were an English cricketer?
I honestly wouldn't have a clue. I hate leaving these isles at the best of times, even if the place I was going to had never had the slightest hint of a terrorist setting foot in it.

Problem is this time around, terrorists have targeted British and Americans specifically.
I'd hope that the security provided would be able to stop such types from having a chance to hit the players though.

I'd really hope such a thing.

See theoretically if a man is so committed to killing others, even if at the cost of killing himself, then any security measures would not be sufficient enough.

That said, English cricketers will be given security that will guarantee them chances of survival than even in England.

I seriously hope that's not serious, if you'll pardon the serious over-use of a serious word there.

Trust me, once you damage an ankle any injury, even if not from the same source, is a worry.

And it goes without saying that Flintoff's non-presence takes the England Test attack from potentially potent to very possibly extremely weak.

Anyway if the Tests do go ahead (which I certainly hope from a cricket POV they do, obviously) I imagine this thread can be merged with the *Official* tour thread?
