Well, can't say he's bowled 'well' as such but he's definitely bowled the most wicket-taking deliveries. Good on him, been through the wringer, come up with 7-fer (at this point), last laugh is his on balance.

Katich has had his fair share of bad selections indeed. As have a lot of Australian players over the last decade or so tbh. Off the top of my head I can think of Martyn, Love, Katich, Lehmann, Symonds who were unfairly selected and/or dropped in this decade. Its perhaps indicative that all of these poor selections didnt make much of a difference because the players that replaced them scored runs or in some cases the players who undeservedly came in were also good enough to score runs.
Btw, not sure I remember Katich's selection from the late 90s? Pretty dire selection if that is the case given his record had no dramatic peaks until then.
From Cricinfo:

Ever since he was included in Western Australia's state squad in 1994-95 he looked destined for bigger things. His talents were on show in 1998-99 when he amassed 1039 first-class runs, including 115 in the final won by Western Australia, and earned a spot on the tour to Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe. Katich was on the brink of a Test call-up in Sri Lanka when he contracted chicken pox and was quarantined. Unable to free himself of a virus that overcame him in the wake of that illness, he was forced to sit out much of the 1999-2000 domestic summer, but after a stellar 2000-01 - 1282 first-class runs and a century against every state - he was picked for the 2001 Ashes tour.

This is Ponting's real India test, IMO. If he can do well on this pitch against Harbi, then I think we can finally put the India question to rest. Not that it bothers me that much anyways.

Martyn was quality but Lehmann should definitely played substantially more test cricket than he did as he was a far better player than a guy like Mark Waugh for extended periods

Possibly the most ridiculous selection involving Katich was his omission for Symonds in SL - stuffed both players' careers for a couple of years
The problem with dropping Waugh was that he had scored all over the world and even though he was furiously inconsistent it was hard to justify dropping him over someone who 'may' have been better but had no proven international track record to back that up. Unfortunately, at the time it meant that Waugh was taking up the place of several other more deserved candidates who may very well have had more success at the test level than he did.

Agreed, especially if it gets worse in the 2nd innings, it'll be a big test for him. It doesn't bother me either, but I do think its a big mark against him if he is to be considered an all time great.

There has been turn and bounce since day 1. Its hard to put this Krejza performance in context until we see Harbhy and Mishra bowl out there. Still think Krezja did ok though, not as much of a joke I was expecting him to be.

One good thing, it's great to see an offie prepared to throw the ball up well outside off. Aside from Murali, haven't seen that from any offie for years.

EDIT: 8-fer on debut. Haha, freaking awesome. Harbhajan just had kittens.....might want to open with him, even.....

I might be wrong, but isn't that Krejza's first FC 5-fer?
