Cricketer Of The Year
Hussey pleased the younger Aussie players haven't backed down to the more experienced Indians.

"They have got a team that's very, very experienced, a lot of seasoned, hardened international players and they know their games very well," Hussey said. "They are quite confident about their games and perhaps in our team we haven't got the 80-90-100-Test players they have. So they probably see themselves as a bit superior in the experience stakes and maybe aren't scared of giving a little bit back."

Hussey was pleased Australia's younger players had not been intimidated. "The good thing I have seen is the guys who have only played 15 to 20 Tests or less haven't backed down from that," he said. "They haven't just taken it on the chin, they've been willing to bite back. We don't want to go over the top, but if a guy is going to needle you you're not going to back away from it."

Same could be said about India, really. Amit Mishra didn't look particularly overawed by the Aussie batting line-up whilst he was systematically dismantling it in Mohali.

Same can be said about Gautam Gambhir. Scoring a double century against Australia is a great thing to have on your record.

Yeah but it's, in some ways, less impressive because of the (lack of) Aussie bowling and ultra flat pitches. Plenty of questions remain about him on more sporting pitches. That said, he's still batted really well and been great to watch.

He's been hardly given a chance right? Not to forget his impressive performance in Australia in ODIs.

On, again, flat decks. Not trying to take the gloss off him because I reckon he's a decent player. Like you said, he's just in the infancy of his Test career.

Not his fault. Also, the scores in that series were not mammoth, except for maybe 1 or 2 games.

I know it's not his fault. Geez, you really think I needed that pointed out? Far out.

With SS on this one, has the apparent technique of a FTB. Time will tell, always does.

Gambhir will be a flat track bully. When we start touring overseas again, we'll find that out IMO.
Thats what they said about Sehwag too when he started off..but tbh i think he is way ahead of what Sehwag was after 20 tests. How can anybpdy say he is destined to fail on bowler friendly wickets without him actually getting to proper go in those conditions is beyond me..

However,i would also like to add that the pitches all over the world in general are pretty flat nowadays8-)

If Gambhir is a flack track bully (he's improved his front foot planting for what its worth), which is unproven but potentially true, he's still probably in for a 45+ batting average career considering the state of pitches anyway.

Gotta love Gautam though, you get the feeling because he just looks like he shouldn't be any good, people just keep making excuses for why he's getting runs (not necessarily those in this thread or on this board).

Does alright in all forms nowadays, and his temperament can never be questioned considering his performances in the 20/20 WC Final, this test series and just generally the way he goes about his batting.

Agree with Jono..GG gets criticised far too often here.Take the SL series for e.g the rest of the Indian line-up were having troubles but he was consistent throughout..thats the main thing i like about Gambhir which sets him apart from other Indian batsmen consistency,no matter what format of the game he is playing.I really believe he is vatsly improved batsman after he was dropped from the World Cup squad.

He's the best player against spin in the world currently. And yet he's being labelled a flat track bully. The day people stop thinking of pace as the be all and end all of bowling is the day I start caring about their opinion of him.
