I'm sure they won't, but being rich and throwing your money about doesn't give you carte blanche to act however you want and, fortunately, Stanford seems to have realised this, hence his apology.

Absolutely adore that expression. Reminds me of Bill Hicks.

Well I don't think (I might be wrong, obviously) that he decided to do what he did because is very rich, more because he clearly has a convoluted sense of what is/isn't appropriate behaviour around such people.

Any publicity is good publicity. Have watched all the matches but my internet's been down since Friday and doing this from school. Nice to see a Caribbean team win against Middlesex but would have rathered a team apart from T&T.

I'm intrigued as to how Emily Prior managed to get onto Stanford's knee without noticing that a 58-year old bloke with a moustache was appearing underneath her arse.

Yet another reason to love "Grubby" Allen:

From cricinfo:

Stanford apology to England stars

Sir Allen Stanford has apologised for his part in an incident that upset the England players during their Super Series win against Middlesex on Sunday.
The series' backer was pictured sitting among the players' partners, with Matt Prior's wife Emily on his lap.
"He understood that the players were not particularly pleased with the incident," said a Stanford spokesman.
"He called both Kevin Pietersen and Matt Prior personally and they have accepted his apology."
The incident, which involved the 58-year-old putting his arms around some of the women, was shown on the big screen at the Stanford Stadium and televised. A number of England players, in the field at the time, found the episode inappropriate. Stuart Broad, who was bowling at the time, said: "There were a few gobsmacked faces when it popped up on the big screen."
Damn, what was Mrs.Prior thinking?

That struck me as odd, obviously, as there'd clearly have been some amount of "consent" there. As I say, the whole thing is entirely bizarre.

I don't know if he does, though - as I say, the fact he apologised for it tends to suggest he actually does realise it wasn't to the best of appropriateness levels.

I don't imagine (I certainly hope not) that he thought "ah well I'm the owner of this event, none of these people would be here but for me, so I can do whatever I want". However, there does seem to be an element of well-they-can't-moan-too-much-'cos-I'm-paying-them-crazy-sums-ness. Which doesn't paint Sir Allen in the best of lights.

Sir Allen is as guilty as the WAGS there. Going by the photograph, there is nothing to suggest that it was a unilateral thing.

Poor, Prior.

There isn't, no, but a couple of things:
1) one single photograph has never told any full story under any circumstances and
2) it's near enough accepted in society that the male, especially when very rich, is primarily at fault for exchanges like this one.

Obviously, though, I imagine Matthew Prior will be expecting some form of explanation from his wife as well as Sir Allen for the escapade.

Yes, difficult to say who is to blame. It is difficult sometime if someone 'important' behaves unappropriately to you because you don't want to make a scene. Sometimes you just have to grin and bear it and winge with your mates afterwards.

That's a point. The "don't focus at my face" of the lady sitting on his lap, probably says she's too embarassed, but don't know what else to do. Obv she cannot be expected to slap him.

Given she's Sammy Nelson's daughter she's probably quite used to men of a certain age behaving inappropriately.

Her old man's career highlight:

England's final warm-up match ahead of Saturday's $20m match against the Stanford Superstars has been hit by a stomach bug affecting four players.

Earlier on Tuesday it was announced that Steve Harmison and Graeme Swann would come into the team for James Anderson and Ryan Sidebottom.

But Stuart Broad and Luke Wright, plus Anderson and Sidebottom, were struck down by sickness and diarrhoea.

That meant unexpected places for Essex pair Alastair Cook and Ravi Bopara.

Jesus. Leaves us a bit thin on the seam front. Either Bopara or Collingwood will be first change.

Flintoff and Harmison to open the bowling and bowl at the death. I wonder if it will be Prior and Bell opening or Prior and Cook.

Jungle Jumbo

International Vice-Captain
Can't see the point in Cook opening. That means Patel and Swann would be 9 and 10. We may as well just play him as a fielder, even if it means him batting at 10.
