And then, it is not so much a question of who batted then since India were in a completely unassailable position and nothing much would have changed anyway. It is more my surprise at how much Dhoni's move has been lauded that I was trying to express. On top of that they went ahead and gave him the man of the match award. If it had to be a batsman, why not Gambhir, he set it up in both innings. Both his two innings were more important in context.

Of course, I would have preferred it to be one of the bowlers.

Didn't know half of the Indian posters on here were experts in the Australian Media. Crazy.

Honestly, one of the worst received victories ever by the Indian supporters on here. Huge credit to those like Prats, SJSers and Sangrah for rising above it.

Not Terrible
Yes and thats why he is still one of the best in the world. Yet I maintain he peaked a while ago, that doesn't mean his batting is all of a sudden going to become so much worse. Just the marker of where his youth and his cricketing ability came to their highest possible point.

That is fair enough. It is highly subjective what one thinks is the best phase of a player's career. I can't decide between the young phase (when he had glorious stats) and the current phase because Tendulkar looks a solid player looking to score big runs now to me. Whether his current phase will be less, equal or greater than his 90s phase, only time can tell for me.

Massive AWTA. Still acting like douches even though they won convincingly.

Brilliant all-round effort here from India's perspective, extremely pleased. Don't understand the all the Aussie media hate either - every nation has it's share of pathetic, biased reports and India's probably right up there if not at the top of the list. Complete non-issue TBH. Krejza and Clark to come in at the Kotla, I think. Tough on Mishra but he has to make room for Kumble (if fit), at least for two tests.

The vast majority of the Australian media has been extremely complimentary towards the Indian team and its victory

If people want to concentrate on the comments of a couple of renowned jackasses then .....

How is that? A right hander (Sehwag) got out and another right hander (Dhoni) came in. To the best of my knowledge Sachin still bats right handed. Why couldn't he have come in place of Dhoni ?
To my knowledge Sachin bats awfully good left handed as well. I have seen him once at the BCCI bat left handed for some reason.

Just compare this..

'....Dhoni also appears to have some confusion about the spirit of the game, appealing on the final day for a catch that clearly bounced in front of him. It is the second time he has done it in two Tests....'

From Cricinfo

http://content-ind.cricinfo.com/indvaus2008/content/current/story/374904.html

'...Dhoni was also asked to explain his appeal for a catch against Mitchell Johnson, one that he had taken on the bounce. Dhoni had appealed but straightaway asked the umpire to call the third umpire because he was not sure. Ricky Ponting was asked a similar question after the Sydney Test and he responded angrily asking the journalist whether he was questioning his integrity. Dhoni's response, however, was different. "I was not sure about the catch so I immediately got up and asked the umpire [gestures as if referring a decision to the third umpire], and Rudi [Koertzen] said that he [Johnson] never nicked it. So there was no point," Dhoni said.

There are times when the ball bounces in front of you and you are not really sure. Your eyes are closed at times but when you feel hard [impact] on the gloves, you think it has carried to you. Since, in this series, it is not about players, it is ultimately the umpire's decision whether to refer to the third umpire or not.'

His record in India (albeit 2020) must've clinched it for him?
Indeed, and that's what so bloody ridiculous about it. He's been picked for Test cricket because he scored runs in an overseas domestic competition, essentially.

I don't really want to rip into Marsh too much as I actually rate him as someone with great potential and quite a good technique, but there's no need at all to pick someone like him when we have blokes like Hodge and Dave Hussey around.

All that's irrefutable really. Chances are he won't get a game so I hope it's just a "for the experience" type of call up.

He's there as a backup opener. Hussey and Hodge can't open if Hayden or Katich go down.

That being said, Rogers would be a little dirty over it.
