Well the rumours on the Sussex messageboard are

1. Joyce (apparently it's a done deal but will be confirmed after some 20:20 knockabout in December)

2. Compton

3. Sayers

Also one or two others that I'm not allowed to tell anyone about and which are longshots in any event.

As for an overseas player, my hope is that Yasir Arafat is re-signed from Kent, and that's where my money is too (excellently though Mo Sami played in the last few weeks of the season).

Given your church mice status Mr Z if this lot comes off who does the rumour mill say will be shipped out?

Haha, Sayers, you're welcome to him.

But really, it does disappoint me that Joyce and Compton have been pushed out of Middlesex by Malan and Dexter, neither of whom are proven to be much if any better. In fact I'd say Joyce probably is undoubtedly better than both - and he's home-ish-grown.

I agree about Sayers - I'm not sure what he would bring to the party.

I don't know. But Adams only has one season left at most and I fear that Hodd may look to move on to seek the opportunities he needs elsewhere (although hopefully if Prior cements an England place we may avoid that).

I'm not so sure, considering McLaren is ineleigble for Kolpak status.

Cheetham and Kerrigan are hardly 'ins' they've just be promoted from the academy. Cheetham played a few games this season.

Seems to miss Law being released from Lancs. Screw the ICL, Id give him a 2 year contract at Yorks.

Also, why are we (Yorkshire) bringing John Blain back. He seems to have some strange afinity with the County.

Yeah, its interesting news, they say they have decided to go with the youth, so you'd expect to see Mal Loye be released as well as Law has actually continued to do well whereas Loye has been abysmal this year. I guess theres also the money situation and the captaincy issue.

Chapple an interesting choice would have gone for Horton myself though they probably might think he's enough pressure with being our only decent batsmen. Croft also would have been an option but probably a year or two too early.

Yeah I thought that when I read old morgie's list which he copy-and-pasted from CricInfo (and which I already posted a link to a few posts back) the first time.

There's others along the same lines: Borrington is already a Derbyshire player; Dawson already at Gloucs; Imran Tahir at Hants; Clarke at Warwicks; Ballance at Yorks. Likewise Tudor and Greenidge had left their counties long before close-season. Strange from CricInfo.

As for Blain, I too thought that baffling. Sure he's a better bowler now than he was in 1999, but I don't understand why we keep re-signing him. Either just keep him or release him for good.

And as for Law, ITSTL indeed. Wonder if that's ICL-related. I can't help but think it probably is. I hope he retires from county cricket now though, there were signs last season that his powers were, at last, on the wane. And he doesn't exactly need the wage with his ICL one.

Not sure of McLaren's position. And my understanding is that Yasir's contract at Kent is about to expire, and the rumour is that he would like to return to Sussex.
