On the current table posted on cricinfo lanky are now 12 points behind Notts - what a surreal climax to the season this is!

Well if the Brownhatters had shown half the fight against Notts that we did against K*nt then possibly but I reckon those 12 points will be 24 by teatime

Er, yes ... I was at the Oval today in fact. I can't tell you how impressed I was. I was considering going tomorrow as well, the boys considerately settled that quandary for me.

As we were leaving the ground announcer wished us all a Merry Christmas.

He was in a tricky position your announcer - given the season as a whole coupled with yesterday's play I think Merry Christmas, absurd as it may seem on one level, was a pretty good effort

TBH if it doesn't rain I think Lancashire or Yorkshire will win. If it does, title looks likely to go to Sussex and Surrey. Kent to do well. Somerset to go down (simple, their bowlings simply not good enough and Caddick's 39). Durham as a major title threat.
Anyone else been reading the pre-season predictions? :D This is my favourite so far.

Somerset 100 up now, as long as they can add another they should be safe. Not much chance of any excitement this afternoon.

Could be a good finish at Chelmsford - Essex 142 on with one wicket left. Should still be 35-40 overs left but if the last wicket pair can hang around for a while ...

As we saw with Kent, targets around the 150 mark aren't always a formality.

Edit: I rather put the mockers on Essex there, they only managed one more run. Salisbury finished with 6-100, his fifth 5-for of the season and his best f-c figures for eight years.

I'm assuming that the table currently showing on Cricinfo includes bonus points from the current games, in which case, assuming the Durham and Somerset matches are both drawn, it'll be Notts on 178, Somerset on 170 and Durham 168 tonight. Realistically Notts will only need a draw in their last game won't they, but it still could go to any of those three.

Not really, a win alone nets you 10 points more than a draw. Plus there's bonus points to complicate things further.

Actually it's 12 points for a win and 4 for a draw isn't it? So if Notts get a max-points draw at home to Hampshire next week they can't be overhauled, but yes I see what you mean. The other big games are at Taunton, where Somerset meet Lancashire and Canterbury where Kent play host to Durham.

And a word about Tony Frost, who's just seen Warwickshire home against Leics. Last year he was working on the groundstaff at Edgbaston, this season he's top of the averages with 91.8. He's grrrrrrreat!

Boris a Nugget? - You're perilously close there to bringing up the name of Keith Miller - do we really want all that nonsense again?

Was always amazed he elected for retirement TBH. He wasn't that old and is now doing a Gooch, spectacularly.

For once, playing two wicketkeepers in him and Ambrose is justified.

Finally Moeen Ali scores something of note. Wasted season for him really, hopefully he can take the proper steps next season. Should at least get an extended run with Hick retired.
