Lancashire to lose by lunchtime tomorrow, I think. Could Kent come up on the rails and snatch it this year?

I guess so, you can never rule out an in-form Harmison. But they have already lost a whole day, and you get the feeling Sussex would be happy with a draw.
Yes. Given the Chanderpaul/Breese partnership I think Adams will accept that Sussex's outside chance of winning the CC is at an end, and consequently he would be delighted with a draw.

Bizarre happenings as Nannes takes 6/32 off just 6.1 against Worcestershire.
I know, he demolished their middle order. I can't think of anything that could have happened to make him so effective in the second innings. He's just one of those bowlers who can be all over the place one day, and bang on the next.

Ah, no - I wouldn't say they're favourites just yet - I think it'll be one of Somerset, Notts or Durham - but obviously I'd be happy to see the Championship go to Canterbury, and from an unpromising fifth (not to mention seventh last year) it would be quite a turnaround.

Perhaps a bit of both, judging by the economy rate.

Another failure for Vaughan today. I'll be very disappointed if he's in the India squad. He needs to go play FC cricket in the winter, not sit on the sidelines in the sub-continent.
Where did you have in mind? South African franchise cricket? Well I guess they owe us one or two (or we owe them one or two, whichever way you prefer to look at it...).
Gough's last match today... no wickets, and only 8 overs to boot. He's had a poor season.
Yep, been a huge disappointment. Almost wish he'd not played this season in the end, hate seeing a once so superb bowler exit the stage in a half-fit damp squib.

As I said earlier this thread, I imagine this might well be Kruis' last season as well, so we should have something of a clean break for the Yorkshire attack, and hopefully the likes of Patterson can step forwards to support Hoggard, who I think we can fairly safely say we'll now be able to use freely for however long he has left.

And I don't really want to see Rana back, for any number of reasons. How I wish we could find a new Darren Lehmann. I shall be following Mark Cosgrove's progress eagerly in 2008/09.

Worcestershire seem to want to stay in Division 2 next year. We were walking this just a few weeks back :@
Heh, what losing your entire bowling-attack can do. No county could hope to survive that without a massive hit.

Still can't fathom how they preferred those clowns Magoffin and Fernando to Imran Arif. Oh well, soon as he's got his British passport that one'll be sorted.

Anywhere really, doesn't matter. NZ did the trick for Strauss.

As for Kruis, you know he's gonna be retiring soon, he's already commentating for Sky Sports. Same goes for Croft, Adams, and a few others I've forgotten. Even Mushy announced his retirement during a commentary spell with the living-legend Charles Colville.

God, he was good when he played for us. Unbelievably good. But it's been a sad cycle of injuries, public criticism of the player (before he even played a game) and underperformance since he's moved up North. Can you offer any explanation for the downward spiral?

Good luck to Notts. Ive a soft spot for them.

As for next season, I have decent hopes for Yorks. A core of Vaughan, McGrath, Rudolph, Bresnan, Rashid, Hoggard, Brophy and hopefully Morkel looks pretty decent.

That ICL crap clouding his mind IMO.

In seriousness - it's baffled me, completely. Given he was signed pre-ICL, I was licking my lips given his phenomenal First-Class strike-rates with Sussex in 2005, 6 and 7, especially given he could only expect more helpful surfaces going from Hove to Headingley. How he's gone so dreadfully this year is beyond me, 100%.

Injuries obviously never help, but UIMM he's not had anything particularly major in the last 12 months, so I don't think it can be that big a factor. It's not like his Sussex success was pure fluke either, his domestic-FC record in Pakistan is superb, even if his Test one is woeful.

Sometimes, I guess, these things just happen. Rana isn't old, but look at Jason Gillespie - he completely lost it (though admittedly only temporarily) at 30, and Rana like Gillespie has always been old beyond his years - he was balding at 26.

Either way, I hope we get someone with no ICL connections in next season who can actually do us a good job. And if Mark Cosgrove starts actually looking like he's prepared to make a bit of sacrifice for his game's sake, he really would be my choice.

Urgh. Can't stand this double-discipline England POV. Patel is a batsmen who can bowl. Not an all-rounder let alone out and out bowler.
Noone said he is an all-rounder. What people who tip Patel for the Test side want generally is for us to play four quicks and him to provide backup. In India we can play 3 quicks, Monty & Patel as the backup spinner.
