Its a mix between the bum picking and the ridiculous top spin on his forehand.

Clearly Federer is the better player to watch, but the whole package of Rafa is awesome. Intense, young, ambitious and yet so humble.
i don't really buy that humility bit, to be at the level he is and to do what he does, he has to be extremely confident to the point of arrogance...and it actually shows in his game...the repeated comments about his humility endears him to fans but i don't really think he is a humble person at least as far as his tennis is concerned....and ambition and humility doesn't really go hand in hand...

He's clearly humble when he doesn't celebrate winning the French Open in ridiculous fashion this year because he realises it would be disrespectful to a great man like Federer.

Rafa has rarely if ever been arrogant in interviews. Federer is said to be a humble champion, when I think he exudes far more arrogance (and good on him).

And ambition and humility don't go hand in hand? I think its possible to be the best, yet not want to remind everyone that you are the best. I don't really understand your argument at all. Rafa gives off the vibe that everything he's trying to accomplish is for himself (and obviously his family and coach).

he clearly admires federer and vice versa, that does not equate to humility...and i don't know where you got the impression that federer is humble...he behaves very well, almost always says the right thing and gives all due respect to his opponents, but when he speaks about his game, there is no humility there, he exudes confidence, an almost unconscious arrogance....and yes, you can say nadal still lives at his old home in a joint family environment, that says that he is a grounded person, knows his roots and values it, does not say that he is humble! and another thing, extremely talented, ambitious and focussed people are rarely if ever humble....in fact i would say one pretty much contradicts the other....

Wasn't a Nadal fan tbh, based mostly on what I perceived as his on-court demeanour, which I thought was one long sneer.
But the more I've watched him, the more I've grown to appreciate his humility and the respect he has for his opponents.
I heard today he's one of the more normal guys on tour, even to the extent of taking an economy flight home from Paris before going to London, sitting up the back of the plane like a normal punter.
His reaction at the French this year sealed it for me, as did his excited, but still respectful celebration at Wimbledon.
Still hope Federer kicks his, and everyone else's ass though.

You'd think so, despite his awful form (by his standards) he has still only lost to Djokovic or Nadal in the slams.

it sure looks like the end of an era...no doubt he will win more tournaments, slams are looking very unlikely now....wow! never thought this would happen to him...

Yep agreed. His reaction to his French Open win was amazing. Even the most respectful of players would have felt the urge to celebrate after winning a 4th straight French Open. Was admirable.

i have a question, does he show this respect to anyone other than federer?

Rafa has today become world number 1, whats interesting now though is that Djokovic is within striking distance of Fed's, we could possibly be seeing Federer ranked number three by the end of the year.

Federer is only 64 points behind Novak in the race so thats not a huge lead, but good showings in the remaining masters series from Djokovic and a poor performance at the US open from Federer would probably see Novak finish the year as number 2.

Think he's safe at least till November. (Masters Cup, which he won last year.)

Could get some real nasty early clashes in the US Open. Monfils, Haas, Gulbis, Safin, Nieminen all in the unseeded batch.

Roddick is in another of his slumps, probably wont do much for the rest of the year.

New Zealand's only hope Erakovic knocked out in the first round again, I think thats either four or five successive tournaments that she hasn't even progressed to the second stage. Not sure what the reason behind that is, given she'd been playing superbly for the first half of the year.

but the pre-tournament expectations will still have roddick as a contender(i saw one analysis saying that he is in the mix since federer is in a big slump and nadal and djokovic would be exhausted after the olympics)....when the truth is that on his best form, he would still need a huge slice of luck to win a slam(like what happened in '03)...

How about not doing much better for rest of his career. I doubt it has anything to do with his slump, he is just an average player.

Maybe, but his serve is big enough that when it's on he will win almost every service game. it just comes down to winning enough games against serve. Lately he hasn't been able to do either.
Due to the lack of depth in men's tennis he is still easily a top 10 player but that says more about his opponents than it does him.
