Can't blame Wimbledon for it, he was losing matches he shouldn't have been since March, if we want to pinpoint one match where it seemed to fall apart it was the demolition he copped from Djokovic in the Aussie semi.

I may be wrong (and probably am) but I though I read some where that if he makes the quarters here he would become no.1

Hass breaks back though.

nadal is proving to be a great champion but tennis will certainly be poorer without federer's virtuosity on display at the end of major tournaments(if that begins to happen soon that is...)...nadal is just not half as "watchable" as federer in full flow...

Well, tennis is a fairly transient sport and hard to predict. Nadal may get to the top and lose motivation, it's happened before. yet your right in theory we could be in for a slightly grim few years, if Fed has gone and no-one else steps up.

The fact is with Fed though, he won three slams last year and he MAY never win one again, which would make ohtani's jacket comment relevant.

At the time I didn't think Wimbledon was that terrible for Roger, he ran Rafa close, and Nadal's hard court form as always been vastly inferior. Yet that was logical thinking which doesn't often have much to do with sport. The psychological effect on both players, so far, seems fairly conclusive.

Hmm, Fed is obviously a delight to watch, but tennis will only be significantly poorer if no talents step up (which is unfortunately likely to be the case).

Otherwise we could have unpredictability back into men's tennis, and whilst Fed's champion/dominant ways would be missed, a genuine pool of 5-6 players who could win a Grand Slam at any time would be awesome. Right now we only have 3.

nadal is a huge talent, so is djokovic....i mean feds has a grace and artistry about him that makes him "a delight to watch"...don't see that in any of the other top players....nadal's game is the very antithesis of grace and artistry and that's what i and a lot of fans will miss if/when someone else starts to dominate...

djokovic ends nadal's streak...the u.s open must be the 1st non-clay major in 4 years that federer is not going in as a favourite...
