Wouldn't it be far easier to just have it set that any new rookies signing up are automatically 17. It would remove some of the confusion people may have about how their sign-up age will effect them etc. and it starts everyone on a level playing field.

That would see loads of people on the same ages though. I think it's nice to have the occasional variation of age. Like IRL some players start late (Pattinson) and other rise through the system - the majority.
