Fascinating article on Farnes showing him to be a prototype of the modern tall, athletic quick bowler.Ken Farnes- Big tall quick that I would have loved to see bowl and had to operate at a time England were being overly nice after bodyline.
Bill Edrich said:I tried to play back, a defensive back stroke while turning my head and lifting my hands. The next thing I knew was that someone was saying smoothly, `have some water, there's no hurry
It is interesting yes - obviously its appeal is limited by the relatively short and unsuccessful career that Hilton had and he never got involved in anything terribly controversial whether within or without the game but if you don't expect too much and/or your a Lancastrian reading it makes for a more entertaining tea interval than listening to Botham and Gower chewing the cud.You have read it? I think the majority of bowlers will be from the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s which quite a few members would have seen. The players who got in from pre-1950 would have all but one been eliminated too.How on earth are we supposed to judge these bowlers on how fast we thought they were, when 95% of members here will have seen nothing except for some grainy archive footage and from what they've read?
If your patient towards the end of this there is one delivery of Ken Farnes which doesn't look terribly fastWell if we are throwing more pre-50s guys for a prelim round then Ill add 2 more.
Mohammad Nissar- The quickest Indian until Srinath?

That is why I think it a great idea for a battle, no one like a Bradman to make it a near waste of timeHow on earth are we supposed to judge these bowlers on how fast we thought they were, when 95% of members here will have seen nothing except for some grainy archive footage and from what they've read?
