Not really relevant since Liverpool's wealthier than you as well.
Ind33d, I was merely pointing out that the amount of debt a club has doesn't neccesarily have any bearing on their spending if they are wealthy enough, which Man Utd clearly are, whether or not they "bought" the league so to speak, is another matter entirely.

If they're in debt though, how wealthy are they?
A debt does not neccesarily mean that your balance is in the red, it could be that Man Utd owe about $40m and are paying it in lumps of about £300k a month till 20XX, during which time their bank balance could well be above £80m at all times, or in all reailty, a hell of al ot more.

I.e - like me with my student loan, my bank account shows several thousand to my name, but I actually owe the bank more than all of it.

It doesn't really matter how far into debt either club is. What matters is their ability to pay the debt off, and I'd imagine Man U would have a far greater ability to service their debt, than Liverpool does to service theirs.

Man Utd's debt though requires near constant success.
Not true, Man Utd make a hell of a lot through marketing, particularly in the USA and the far east, which wouldnt take a huge bump even if the team went slightly off the rails.

To be honest I reckon if we failed to qualify for the Champions League one year we would be in big trouble. The kind of decline we had 2004-2006 isn't really going to hurt us though.

Do you Mancs think it will hurt you if Queiroz goes to Portgual, as seems to be likely? Seem to recall you didn't win a single title in his previous absence, not saying that was the reason why just throwing it out there.

What about all the TV money, merchandise etc.? That must be worth a fair bit.

It's massive debt and more has been added to it IIRC. Simply put, those resources don't add up to much when you consider that the huge transfer fees and wages, plus maintenance and the like. Add the debt to that and it's not so clear cut. Basically, I mean that a constant stream of success is necessary to facilitate that merchandising and the like. Trophies give more prestige and attract more followers. Too big a drop in revenue from any of those sources following a bit of trophyless seasons and the debt becomes harder to pay off. Plus the club itself pays that debt, not the Glazers so the club needs to continue making lots of money to service it and keep everything running.

He's certainly done a lot and would be missed but an adequate replacement could be found. Still, would prefer him to stay of course.

Yeah, it'd have an impact, if a replacement was not found the impact would be more long term IMO, as the main strength of Quieroz seems to be the development of prospects from overseas.

Not sure whether I want him to be our next manager or not, so not overly fussed in that sense. While I won't hold his stint at Madrid against him, he is unproven.
