Haha, FFS, Nick Knight and Charles Colville trying to manufacture a chance out of something that was never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever a chance.

Nah, people do get wickets bowling utter crap, it's not THAT unusual. He did nothing right today, TBH suggestions like "he may be rushing the batsmen" simply smack of seeing good figures and trying to find a reason the bowler deserved them. Which ain't uncommon.
It is not as if you often say that Mahmood deserves wickets, but he does get them on a regular basis - I was merely suggesting that it was a natural attribute and rather that you can get wickets without skill but also without some sort of bizarre form of (reasonably) consistent luck.

Mahmood doesn't get wickets on a regular basis though - he gets them occasionally when batsmen play poorly.

Today was one such instance.

If a bowler is lucky, that's all he is. Yes, of course, some bowlers get lucky more regularly than others (and let's remember, bowlers sometimes get called "lucky" for getting wickets with non-wicket-taking balls, which isn't always correct - this is different to Mahmood who today got five wickets all with rank bad deliveries) same as some batsmen get more let-offs than others. But Mahmood doesn't. This was just an isolated instance.

Pace?

I caught ten minutes of this game this morning, how Sussex got bowled out that cheaply was a real surprise for the wicket looked completely 'lifeless'.
Think he was averaging somewhere in the 82-83 region. Wicket was lifeless.

I reckon a CC game should be shown from each round, personally. It's better than Aerobics Oz Style and whatever else Sky Sports show in the week.

Cricket fans would enjoy it undoubtedly, but I presume it wouldn't make financial sense for one of the counties or Sky.

Maybe both.

Yeah there is no business thought behind my wishes, just self-interest really, mind you I would be in work most of the time. Maybe more extensive highlights packages could be put together though, rather than 2 minute clips on SSN. I reckon anyone who watches the OD games live would watch CC highlights.

Yeah, would be good that. A daily Championship round-up show, with perhaps one featured game and the dodgy camera-on-angle footage from the rest. Can see there being some interest.

Dude, we're staring at the end of test cricket in the majority of current test nations.. Don't think your CC on TV dreams are going to get very far..

hmmm hope Smithy does well at Leicestershire, needs to get back on track.

vis a vis CC games on tv, Richard, can't ever remember sky showing 4 Championship games on Sky. There was a time they used to show FC games against the tourist as well though. Seem to recall having a similar discussion before though. There are actually 3 CC games on Sky this year FWIW. They are also showing a game from each of the last two rounds (17-20 sept & 24-27 sept). Under the conditions of the tv deal they are only required to broadcast 2 though.

Test Cricket is doing fine here though, what is happening worldwide is pretty irrelevant when it comes to deciding whether we would be interested inw atching or not. As I say, I imagine it would get as many viewers as a domestic OD game

IMO, the lack of CC matches are more down to the English weather then anything. Its quite a big expense for Sky, and to just go and watch the rain fall down, isn't really worth it. Must cost much more in accomodation alone for a four-dayer, at least if a one-dayer is called off, and they tend to play on in worse conditions for limited overs.

Anywhoo, Gary Keedy showing what a poor batting effort it was by both sides yesterday..

Yep, only his second f-c 50, coming six years after his first. And hundred # 17 for Jon Batty down at the Oval. What would the man above him in the order have given to be in his shoes now?
