Looks like Durham is playing Albie Morkel purely as a batsman, hopefully its due to a knock or something and not because Albie doesn't want to roll his arm over.

Haha, Lou Vincent is a joke sometimes. Ridiculous to see new ball bowlers as good as Corey Collymore being swung straight for six.
He's a joke because he scores runs? That makes no sense.

Loye can't buy a run this summer.

No change in the weather or anything else - we are well on top (admittedly a little fortuitously) and for no apparent reason Lewry makes it look like a different bloody game .

Apparently this is what Maurice Tate used to do

Century up for ten Doeschate at Chelmsford, as I said earlier much-needed after Essex's top-order mostly collapsed.

BTW, good to see the loan system being used to get Tom Smith a game for Leics.

Less good to see it meaning crap bowlers like Wigley and Harris (who hasn't played for Notts this year) getting a game for Gloucs instead of this Vikram Banerjee fellow. Carl Greenidge who took 5-62 or something in his only spell of the season must feel a bit sore too.

Jason Lewry seems a fine bowler. Good swing, not afraid to pitch it up and the pace is adequate for county or international (hypothetically) cricket.

He's a joke for trying those shots whether they worked on this occasion or not.
Didn't see shot in question as I've only just got back in from rugby, but I've got a sneaking suspicion that if Mahmood had bowled the delivery that was struck for 6 rather than a bowler you like, Vincent wouldn't have been such a joke for playing the shot and infact, the ball would have been utter dross and only got what it deserved.

Jason Lewry's a superb bowler, always absolutely loved him. Such a shame he never attained the consistency or ability to conquer injury to play for England.

Also good to see Hoggard get rid of di Venuto 2nd ball of Durham's innings after our seemingly very poor collapse to 184, with Collingwood doing the trick he's done more than once in recent times and filching the tail. Now taken 5 for 31 in his 2 games for Durham this year.

At 37, I don't think he's too much of a candidate for the Test team.

Bowling excellently, nontheless.

Well Mahmood or someone would've been more likely to bowl a dross ball, of course. Vincent is a joke regardless of who's bowling though. It is obviously far more annoying when it's a good bowler like Collymore, needless to say, but Vincent is a joke for playing those shots. No place for them in the First-Class game IMO.

Life is not a fair place filled with calculations where probability runs strong. Sometimes the length is just correct for a certain shot, the lack of pace allows a batsman to get into the correct shape - several unmeasurables make cricket such a superb game. Mahmood got 5 wickets today, but he could not have bowled absolutely reprihensibly, otherwise he would have gone wicketless. Perhaps it is the talent to rush the batsman, it is not skill, it is not earned but it is very real and can cause mistakes in the batsman - perhaps the wippy action causes an uncertainty in the batsman's stroke which can cause short balls to be chopped on - again, not earned but very real.

Rant over.

Hence the "hypothetically" - far too old for any sort of talk of a Test cap.

The speed gun is working, yay!

Left arm inswing is a tough art, having just become added an inswinger to my armoury myself. Some days you have batsmen leaving balls that pass over middle stump and other days you try the same delivery and it is short and extremely far outside leg stump - either way, I don't get a ****ing wicket:dry:

Nah, people do get wickets bowling utter crap, it's not THAT unusual. He did nothing right today, TBH suggestions like "he may be rushing the batsmen" simply smack of seeing good figures and trying to find a reason the bowler deserved them. Which ain't uncommon.

I was suggesting that if it was the exact same ball, but bowled by someone you don't rate, your reaction would be different.
I was suggesting it would've been different in terms of the bowler, but no different in terms of the batsman.

Vincent would still be a joke for playing the shot, but I wouldn't mind as much.

There seems to be some sort of problem with the water or something in Lancashire for New Zealanders - Danny Morrison and Nathan Astle couldn't play properly for us either

As for Vincent I am more inclined to cry than laugh - it is very stressful to watch
