Australia ease to tour triumph
From Philip Henderson in Bridgetown, Barbados

SHANE Watson staked his claim for the vacant one-day opening spot as Australia streaked to a 211-run win in their tour match against the University of West Indies Vice Chancellor's XI.
Australia made perfect use of the short boundaries at the picturesque 3Ws Oval in Barbados to blast 16 sixes and 15 fours in amassing 5-337 from 50 overs before dismissing the select side for 126.
Watson struck 10 boundaries, including four sixes, in a stroke-laden 95 off 85 balls as all of Australia's batsmen got amongst the runs ahead of the five-game one-day series against the West Indies, starting on Wednesday (EST) in St Vincent.
Nathan Bracken, playing his first game for Australia since knee surgery in March, finished the pick of the bowlers with 3-25, with Mitchell Johnson claiming 2-24.
With Adam Gilchrist retired and Matthew Hayden currently out injured, the battle for the Australia's opening spot is expected to be one of the most intriguing facets of the upcoming one-day series, with at least three players-- Watson, Shaun Marsh and James Hopes - all in contention.
Michael Clarke may also be an option at the top of the order, with Luke Ronchi opening alongside Marsh in the Twenty20 loss to the Windies.
Watson was only called into the one-day squad as an injury replacement for Hayden, but now looks set to open the batting in the first one-dayer after carrying his Indian Premier League form into the tour match.
He shared a 68-run opening stand with Marsh (38), and then a 103-run partnership with Michael Hussey (50) before being denied a century by a terrific catch from left-arm spinner Kavesh Kantasingh (1-41) in his follow through.
Clarke, captaining with Ricky Ponting resting, bashed three fours and three sixes in a 35-ball 53 before retiring, before David Hussey (55) and Cameron White (34) ensured the total went well past 300.
Hussey belted five sixes, including four in the space of two overs to bring up his half century.
West Indies pace bowler Darren Sammy did his chances for selection in the first one-dayer no favours after being belted for 2-78 from nine overs for the Vice Chancellor's XI.
Teenage quick Kemar Roach, who made his international debut in the Windies' Twenty20 win over Australia, fared much better, taking 2-47.
As well as Ponting, Brett Lee was also rested, with Andrew Symonds (back spasms) and Brad Haddin (broken finger) also sitting out. Of the four, only Symonds is considered in any real doubt for the opening one-dayer.
