'Twas a cracking catch indeed.ffs Brendon. 16 already off the over, and now your out.
To a ripper, but still ****en out.
Again, I think Mason getting hit for about 25 off his two overs in the 24 over match the other day had a big influence on the decision to replace him with Gillespie.I mean, FFS if Gillespie HAD to come in it'd make sense to replace Southee no?
You saw what I said about that, yeah?Again, I think Mason getting hit for about 25 off his two overs in the 24 over match the other day had a big influence on the decision to replace him with Gillespie.
Lol, yes. I'm just saying that thats the only possible reason IMO for including Gillespie in the side ahead of Mason. You saw what I said about that, yeah?
I'm sure you're right. Still think it's a brainless decision though TBH.Lol, yes. I'm just saying that thats the only possible reason IMO for including Gillespie in the side ahead of Mason.
Don't rate Mascarenhas as a pure bowler. With him in the side you'd just have Broad and Anderson as pure bowlers of any note. Bringing in a third specialist is a good move imo, though it should be Jon Lewis and not Chris Tremlett. Two "WTF?"s in selection - NZ replace Mason with Gillespie, England replace Mascarenhas... which would've been fair enough if Sidebottom was fit, but he's not, so it is... Chris Tremlett.
Absolutely ridiculous that Mascarenhas gets a 23-over game then gets dropped in what seem likely to be bowler-friendly conditions.
Indeed. Mason is a far better bowler than Gillespie in limited overs. They must be hoping Gillespie will come good and still will be able to have a ODI career.I'm sure you're right. Still think it's a brainless decision though TBH.
Mascarenhas is an excellent OD bowler, far better than Tremlett in the shorter game. Lewis I hope doesn't play ODIs again, he's not going to be around in 2011 and I don't want to see us wasting games when we could be finding-out someone else is crap with them instead. In any case, Mascarenhas > Lewis as a OD bowler IMO.Don't rate Mascarenhas as a pure bowler. With him in the side you'd just have Broad and Anderson as pure bowlers of any note. Haha, if you pick players on the basis of how they may perform for a short period of time in 3 years then your selection policy and priorities are seriously ****ed up.Mascarenhas is an excellent OD bowler, far better than Tremlett in the shorter game. I presume you'll so far only have seen Mascarenhas bowl in the corresponding series in NZ?
Tremlett on, looks like both How and Taylor are waiting on the pull already.
Hes fine .... As long as the score england are chasing is above 320! and not chasing a high run-rate for duckworth lewis!.Gillespies just fine IMO, Mason bowled a few shockers in the last match, fair call.
In ODIs all I'm concerned about is the next World Cup. I don't mind who wins and who loses in between. I know a good few others, especially those from Australia, don't think the same way, but that's one of the few things I generally think the England selectors get right. If they never pick Lewis again I'll be happy. Certainly wouldn't be if he was 6 years younger mind.Haha, if you pick players on the basis of how they may perform for a short period of time in 3 years then your selection policy and priorities are seriously ****ed up.
I say it again - how many times have you watched him? If it's just in the series in NZ, that's unfair.Jon Lewis would thrive in these conditions which you have said would suit Mascarenhas. Lewis>>>Mascarenhas as a bowler.
I don't really rate Mascarenhas. As a 5th/6th bowling option, he's alright. But as a first change, he's not that good imo.
Mascarenhas is one of the best one-day bowlers in this country. Simple as. If you're not going to pick him you're going to pick lots of poor bowlers. As England have done very often in recent years. Anderson and Tremlett are both very poor.I don't get how you rate Mascarenhas so highly as an One Day bowler. Certainly, he's never going to be in a top five bowling list for any country, but given his additional power as a batsman, he gets selected. I have no problem with Mascarenhas in 20:20, but he's not a must pick in the English One Day team. I can certainly see his value being there in the squad, but he is not a better bowler than Tremlett, or Lewis for that matter. When you've got Collingwood and Bopara in your team, Mascarenhas is not going to provide anything substantially superior to what they offer, whilst Tremlett will.
And I reckon I've seen more of Mascarenhas and Tremlett (and Bopara for that matter) playing county cricket than you have.
