As Mohammad Yousuf and the might of Steven Croft power on (depressing that we can get three batsmen of the calibre of Sutcliffe, Loye and du Plessis out for ducks and the next lowest score to be dismissed for is 152) it seems Goughy has decided to take it easy:

Not really. No point damaging your chances for later in the season (Gough said a few days ago that he often struggles in the First-Class game these days) by trying hard when you don't need to in a game where the result is a foregone conclusion.

I'd much rather Gough save his efforts and be more likely to be able to put-in a telling performance later in the season in a crucial game.

Not really. No point damaging your chances for later in the season (Gough said a few days ago that he often struggles in the First-Class game these days) by trying hard when you don't need to in a game where the result is a foregone conclusion.

The depressing thing though is a reject XI (11 Tykes at other counties) would probably be stronger than this one.

Cant fault Yorkshire for producing talent. However that conveyer belt means they are too cheap to pay peak career players as they can just bring in another youngster.

9, ITBT. Neither Rudolph or Brophy are anything less than 100% Protean.

Fat lot of good it's doing though TBH. Don't rate either of Sanderson or Pyrah as far as I can throw 'em really, Bresnan is bowling much better this season than he ever has before but still has plenty to do, Sayers has been OK of late but had a very poor start to his career and has gone poorly again this year, Lyth doesn't look up to much yet, Andrew Gale is going good recently which is good to see (not least because he's writing for us on CW.n), and Gough won't be playing again after this season.

Only Gale and Rashid who I'm confident of on a long-term basis though TBH.

BTW, any of the Middlesex lot on here know whether Robbie Williams is going to be playing again this season?

Certainly always been disappointed Silverwood left, personally I'd have liked Hutchison to have stayed as I always thought he could've been quite good, and Sidebottom, well, obviously. Gavin Hamilton isn't a Yorkshireman but likewise I've always been disappointed he tailed-off so badly and so quickly.

Matthew Wood's position had become pretty untenable but still I don't think there's anyone much better in the current squad either.

The likes of Byas and Blakey retired, obviously, but I've always thought they should've had more made of them late on.

Only kidding. I suppose I assumed that Brophy sounded like a Yorkshire name.

Yeah, I know that most of them aren't up to much at this point, but it still makes a welcome change after seeing Surrey vs Somerset yesteday with neither side able to field a home-produced bowler.

If his fitness prevents him from putting in 100% in every situation, then I'd have my doubts as to why he is still playing. Not exactly setting a good example for the younger guys either, aside from the fact Gough himself is essentially getting a full pay check despite not putting in his best efforts.

I can understand it from your point of view, but I feel that players should always try their hardest. Whether that's because I'm an idealist 17 year old, I don't know...

I've always thought of Chapple as about as Yorkshire as Michael Vaughan is Lancastrian really.

It's possible to take that view, yes. However, I'd tend to think that if Gough can produce you 15 overs a day and take 3-36 (hypothetical - obviously it's not always going to be that good) he's more valuable than someone like Ben Sanderson who can give you 25 overs but will probably be more likely to take 1-100.

I think Gough has probably chosen a good time to retire, I'd not be too keen on him playing any more seasons after this.

Do you really think of Middlesborough as Yorkshire? I know in theory it is, but it always feels far more Durham than Yorkshire to me.
