well they say in tennis - when you have two lopsided semis the final will be a cracker :p

by the way for the people living in either Chennai or Jaipur (or the state Rajasthan i spose)
whats the hype over there? is it big? i would think the people would be really passionate and there would be a buzz .. (maybe not the same as india playing a WC final) as this is pretty big coz the world is watching their state play...

oh plz let me see Warney and his boys lift up that trophy (whatever the trophy is) :)

Jaipur is in Rajasthan but it also includes the teams like Baroda, Gujarat & Saurashtra :)

knowing these areas, i m sure things would be pretty charged up there :)

WOOHOOO OMG! Madras is soooooooooooooo gunn

Was understably skeptical about our chances given Punjab's strong top order and the on-fire Shaun Marsh, in particular, but we annihilated them today. Very good bowling effort up front from Ntini and the greenhorn Gony, both of em bowled a very good line and made use of the extra zip and bounce in the pitch. Gony is a genuine India prospect, give him a few years in the domestic arena to devleop his incutters/legcutters etc. and he'll be ready.

Great innings from Raina and Parthiv to cruise to victory, Raina esp. Would have loved to see Subaru bat, but we can't help it Punjab just collapse and not make enough runs. Gunnn fielding effort as well, Murali taking a scorcher and making direct hits. Aweessome

We'll probably lose to Rajasthan given their record so far, but I am quietly hopeful that we can sneak in another upset.

Watson it's time to pull your monthly hammy buddy, stop delaying the bloody inevitable! . That goes for you too Munaf, breakdown everytime u play for India and now you go through a 14 match tournament without a scratch. I know Warne has some great captaincy skills, but a physio whizz as well? What next, Smith opening the batting tonight!! :)

Whatever it takes!!!
Go Chennai. :)

Will be very tough against Warney's boys tonight but as long as we give them a good fight like that day in Chennai, I will be proud of my team. :)

Well when I was in India untill about 4 days ago the hype was huge, especially amongst young people, pretty much everyone I knew had some interest or watched most of the games (especially when their home team played) so I'm assuming most of th country would be up for it tonight.

Don't get me sarted on the news channels, sometimes there'd be 20 minutes out of every hour dedicated to the IPL.

 So true about Munaf, can't last a few weeks of a tour but can perform when the $$$ are there.

How the IPL has done worldwide

Interesting little piece there, anyone from any of those countries dispute the summaries given there? Haven't been in Australia during the tournament time but have found it to be mainly expats, young people with too much time on their hands, hardcore cricket fans who'll watch any cricket and gambling addicts who have been keenly following the IPL.

I reckon getting an IPL window in so all the Aussie big timers can play the whole thing would help the ratings but as said in the articles the timings really are not kind from an Australian perspective, at least on the East coast.

The one thing the IPL has done, as many sports lawyers and administrative scholars will attest to, is its shown the fact that a truly independent body running a tournament (in this case the BCCI, with no connection to any of the franchises) is far more efficient, and creates the right incentives for competition participants, than how any other domestic system is run (from a profitability point of view).

Ideas similar to the IPL were advised to the ECB in the past, and rejected on the basis that the counties would tell the ECB to **** off.

The BCCI may be a corrupt and political organisation, but money cuts through all of this, and if the end justifies the means (increased player payments ensuring more players choose cricket over rival sports, and from an Indian p.o.v younger players gain exposure to intl pressures), then its been worth it.

And more importantly, its something to watch late at night. :D

Don't know about that. There were two good length articles in today's Age, one about Watto in the IPL and one about the IPL making the BCCI about 100 mil in profit for this year alone. Also mentioned that the effects on the IPL on television sets and fast food have been immense.

I've had conversations about the IPL with several Aussies who you would never describe as cricket tragics, so my experience has definitely been that it's created some buzz and has ordinary cricket fans interested.

I think it's probably fair from an England point of view, the main coverage has been KP's constant salivating over the money which hasn't helped the image with people at all.

I do know a fair few people who are following it, though they are mainly of an Asian background and therefore have more of a link with the players.
