State Captain
Well considering that he averages 53 in FC cricket and has scored centuries in unofficial 'first-class' games against near full-strength England and South African bowling attacks, I'd say you're wrong about the baggy green comment. It is the longer format which he has prospered the most.
Won't be convinced until he shows he has the temperament to ton up on a juicy track.

News brewing that there is a rift in the KKR camp. Idiot Shahrukh Khan thinks he knows more about cricket and cricketing decisions than his team captain.
He also wants the coach to make all game related decisions from season 2 onwards. Looks like he may lose his icon player.

All is not well between SRK and Ganguly
haha, but this time SRK has picked out the wrong person as Ganguly is known for fighting back

SRK's is known for his sarcastic remarks and the fun he makes of others be it the film stars at the awards, picking unnecessarily on Amar Singh, going heads on with AB over KBC, iirc

even though SRK is one of my favorite actors, I see no reason for ppl to tolerate him

ironically, it's SRK and Sourav's combination that keeps me away from supporting KKR in the way that I would have liked

Looking over the the schedule it's incredible how packed it is, just under a month and a half so far with absolutely no breaks in the middle. Though it really is a credit to the BCCI or whoever for running the tournament so well, on such a scale, with minimal problems and on such short notice.

He owns the side though and signs all of their paychecks. I can't see how Ganguly has the right to say anything, being one his employees.

the race is still on for the semis,

Del vs Kol and Del vs Mum would be high pressure games

the team coming victorious out of these will be better placed to absorb the pressure in the knockouts

thats true but then the cricket boards do that as well .... doing that doesn't undermine a captain's role

if Ganguly is not doing well then sack him, i see little point in trying to minimize the power of a captain

It's a different kettle of fish with the cricket boards, though. SRK (and co) payed 75 million dollars for the team and he has the right to do things like give coaches more power or whatever. It may not be smart, but he's paid for that right. I agree though, he should just get rid of Ganguly if there's a rift. Also, we've seen how important good, inspirational captains are in Twenty20 (Dhoni in WC, Warne in IPL) and I'm not sure Ganguly is right for the role at all, tbh.

There's no rift. SRK's come out and said it's the type of disagreement that happens every day at workplaces. He knows the team isn't doing well but he supports them etc etc.

Very different to Mallya's management of the situation, no-one is getting fired here.

He even sent an SMS to his squad which went something like this:

“Story time boys… I told you if you keep losing you have to bear with my long, boring msgs…. This is your punishment…. Many times I have made movies which don’t do well…. When I’m doing them, of course, I don’t know they won’t do well…. The story is written by somebody else and I just do my bit as an actor. But I have a way of dealing with flop stories…, I try my best to keep my character in the film at a level that it makes a failed story also special for me….

“I enjoy the work…. I make jokes about the failure…. And, of course, feel awful about it too…. So, right now, all of us have become part of a failed script… A bad IPL script…. Let’s try and keep our characters worthy of still looking back at this story and remembering it as a special story becos we all worked very hard at this….

“So, chin up and don’t spoil yr character in the next two games…. Let’s go out with a bang and not a whimper…. In films, we say u r only as good as yr last film…. So let’s make the whole world know how good we r in the last (maybe not) two games…

“Also, do ignore all this bit about Dada, me and John Buchanan having issues…. It’s a normal thing in the world…. People like to hit you when u r down…. So, we will be hit…. No stress…. It will make us stronger…. The only way to avoid this is to win…. That’s one of the reasons why everybody likes to be a winner….

“On the other hand, the beauty of failure is that it brings people together…. So, let’s stick this out together…. You know me well enuff to know I am not the kind of owner who has issues with the team ’cos of losses… I am too much of a sport myself to get beaten by defeats…. Like you guys are…. Like Dada and John….

“I am still trying to understand the code of conduct expected of me at the matches of the IPL…. ICC… Etc…. After I understand it, I will decide whether to accept it or not…. Till such time, I will be with you guys at the hotel… in the meetings etc., but won’t come for the matches…. So, please don’t ever feel it is anything to do with us as a team….

“I am as dedicated to my Knights as I am to my kids…. Only, I won’t be coming to the class room till the headmaster’s rules are understood by me…. I am a bit anti-Establishment kind of a guy, so I apologise for this quirk to u all…. So, head’s up…. Have a good match and let’s make 200 runs tomorrow…. This 150 seems to not work any more….

“We have nothing to lose now, except our character…. Let’s not lose that…. Lov… SRK.”

Thats a sensible move by SRK .... trying to take things in his hands when, as he says, he doesn't understand them in 360 degrees makes little sense

and the odds of taking on Sourav successfully in Bengal despite him being the owner are pretty slim

with so many Pakistani players, who are known to not gel, in the squad, along with Sourav, Buchanan and SRK, the KKR's dressing room is bound to be charged up :p

Luke Pomersbach is an incredibly gifted cricketer, I'm surprised anybody is trying to write him off as a slogger.

As sst mentioned, the guy averages over 50 in Pura Cup cricket and has scored centuries against touring South African and English sides. Definitely got a big future in store for him.

IMO, Ganguly (and John Wright) are the two men responsible, more than anyone else, that took India that hadn't won a single Test overseas in fifteen years, to a side that consistently competes anywhere in the world. I definitely think he can motivate and do well, even if his on field tactics do not measure up to someone like Warne.

However, as we have seen with Harbhajan and other youngsters (whom he'll run through a wall for if he likes, and will boot them out of the team if he doesn't), he can be very picky on players, and if he is not getting the right team, he may not be as successful. I'd say to give him another year, I definitely think he has the right qualities.

You change your opinions pretty fast.

There is SRK/Ganguly interview on Youtube, it was posted couple of days ago and there was no indication of anyrift between them.

SRK comes across as a very humble and perhaps the nicest guy one could see in his lifetime, I really doubt that he will ever have rift with anyone.

if you had the time to think, you would have noticed that i commented on a post, along with an article with link provided in it, where it talked abt the rift

then I said that SRK did a sensible job of staying out of doing things, which he says, he doesn't understand fully

and ofc i do believe that there is a minor rift and thats acknowledged by SRK too when he says that it's no more than whats common in a workplace .... mentioning that in the SMS tells me that there is no smoke without fire

don't know how have i changed my opinion

well, I m pointing towards telling things in the name of humor :clown:

and if you are saying that ppl in Ind need to have sense of humor [which i think that they have] then i would like to point towards the old saying of when in Rome do what the Romans do .... not doing in Rome what the Romans do is not a sensible thing to do, IMO

might just say that Saudis need to appreciate women wearing mini skirts on streets, a true statement but :p
