bat time and see what happens is the easy answer.

Bowl Kent out for under 200 and score 400 and then put Kent in again is plan A.

What's plan B? Our bowlers are going to be fatigued if they are to bowl for three days straight.

First rain, now a flat deck in early English summer?

Well, Tredwell's bettered his previous best & doubled his total of FC centuries in the process.

Thought Kent were taking the piss by naming him at 3, but apparently not.

James Tredwell truly has been in the runs recently.

Maybe he can find a new career, as he certainly ain't going to get far as a spinner.

the regular juicy english pitches of april and may are a thing of the past.
Absolutely, and have been for quite a few seasons now. Who knows, the cricket-following population at large might start catching-up with matters about now.

"We wouldn't be talking about me having the chance to play for England again this year if the boys had done really well out in Sri Lanka and New Zealand.

"If they had had a gun time of it, where they were winning games of cricket and all the batters were getting runs, there would be no need to start looking at the fringe players as much."

Funny, we did have a load of people impersonating Sussex and Kent players a little while back...

Seriously, though, I honestly can't think of more than a single occasion (that being this song) that the noun "gun" has been used in the "good thing" context. Only similar occasions have been with "ning it" tacked on. How odd.

You mean they couldn't make-up that extra run for the day?

(Yes, sometimes the most lame jokes ARE funny - because of their lameness)

At what, exactly? Deep square leg fielding?
Batting for one...

In all seriousness though, I don't think Tredwell is anywhere near a test-class bowler. He might be useful in limited overs games, particularly in 20:20 but there are several spin bowlers who deserve a place in the test team ahead of him.

On a flat wicket, against a bowling attack like New Zealand, where it's highly likely we will be relying on teenager Southee to get us wickets like Sidebottom, you will pick him just to develop him won't you?

Martin - Can't get wickets anymore, showing signs at 34, he's past it. Whether he's ever got it, aside from the 5 wicket bag against South Africa a few seasons back.

Mills - Not quick enough to cause worries, he's there because there is no other bowler.

Southee - The only bowler picked on merit of the three.

Oram - Medium pace.

Vettori - Can't get wickets if he tried. Tredwell > Vettori as a bowler.

You have obviously never seen James Tredwell bowling. However, seeing as your entire cricketing outlook is based on district politics and conspiracy theories, I don't know why I'm even considering reasoned debate.
