Why do I have the 'Meet Lesbian singles in your area today' ad when this isn't even some controversial gay thread?

Been browsing CC with a bit more regularity now that I have time to waste at Uni again :p

Anyway, voted. Supported India since I really got into cricket, never really been sure why other than my favourite players at the time were Dravid () and Tendulkar. Though I do pull for England (except when they play India, which was confirmed in the series last year where I was thoroughly behind India) and Sri Lanka when I watch them play, fans of both countries. But yeah, got passion for the Indian cricket team, have fun supporting them.

Tbh, you can assume that most people with thousands of posts on a cricket forum are in fact single.. I think these dating sites have got their target markets sewn up..

Hmm... that's an interesting one. From guesswork rather than survey, I'd say the majority of CW posters tend to be tied more often than not. And not that many of us have massive postcounts - there's only 5 with more than 20,000, for example.

Number of votes now cracked the 150 mark, though fair to say there are a few joke votes and a few votes from posters with negligable postcounts who may very well not be around long.

I have to say though I'd not have expected Australia to be so highly represented - and as I said earlier, if all goes well there's still plenty to come there.

I can't say I'd ever given much thought to the fact before now, however. The percentage of cricket-following population from Australia compared to other places is tiny, so it's surprising TSTL that the country is the most-represented in terms of followers on CW (and it is - potentially, there's still another 30 or so votes to come from Aussie fans).

And only 3 of the Australian fans on CW (newly to include Sudeep, who I never knew about until now) have no ties (in terms of living there or having lived there) to the country, the others being Sameer (pup11) and Colin (aussie).

Very interesting that NZ/ENG/AUS have an almost 2:1 numerical advantage over the subcontinent fans. I would not have guessed that. On this site, the English fans tend to be the best, in terms of post quality.

And by my reckoning, there's 44 more "current" posters (not all CC regulars, but people who continue to be a part of the forum) who could add to the Aussie count. Plus 16 for the NZ, and 23 for the England. Then of course there's potential new sign-ups.

I reckon there are another 13 potentially for India (Anil, Arjun, Nitin AKA "Dravid", Rajeev FKA Sehwag309, Gaurav AKA cricketboy29, Nikhil Patel, Sriram, Yaju, bagapath, Isolator, sirdj, chipmonk and Sanz), 5 for SL (Anthony AKA JBH001, Migara, JASON, Mahinda and Legglancer) and 7 for Pakistan (Shoaib Ahmed AKA BhupinderSingh, godofcricket, Bouncer, no1_gangsta_786, funnygirl and Engle). Plus another Bangladeshi - Bangladesh's number-one Bangladeshi fan on here (Stedman's an Aussie) Trigger_Tiger who hasn't been around of late.

Quite a disparity really.

For me the big surprise (and concern) is JUST TEN votes for Pakistan. Why ? Are we losing our Pakistani friends ?

That could be a thread idea, how much bias, arguments etc could we get in that thread?

Well, let's not forget that Pakistan has 1/6th the population of India while having a roughly similar level of development. SL in turn has 1/8th the population of Pakistan. It's India which is probably under-represented among sub-continental countries.

Part of the reason is probably that a lot of the sub-continental supporters are expats and though there are more Indian expats in the US,UK and Australia, I am guessing the difference is smaller than in the underlying population.

Among developed countries, England seems to be underrepresented.

I was comparing England with other developed countries: Australia and NZ. I don't think cricket is the clear no.1 in Australia either and it definitely isn't no.1 in NZ.
