The Wheel is Forever
India scored almost 400 runs on this pitch while losing 12 wickets, coming out to over 33 runs per wicket - which is very healthy (and actually the average runs per wicket for all Tests this decade).
Yeah, they've done well here. Credit to Ganguly's match winning knock and Sreesanth and Sharma's partnership which really turned the game on its head.India scored almost 400 runs on this pitch while losing 12 wickets, coming out to over 33 runs per wicket - which is very healthy (and actually the average runs per wicket for all Tests this decade).
Yeah, congratulations India, on a well deserved win. Ishant Sharma is an underrated tailender, but I have my misgivings about Sreesanth (he tends to throw the bat, Darren Gough-style).Yeah, they've done well here. I will agree with that. I myself didn't watch the whole game either but a lot of wickets have been gifted from both sides. In SA first inning, McKenzie was batting well and then suddenly decided to charge down the track to Chawla. There was just no need for that aggression that early in the game. In India inning, Yuvraj, Dhoni, Ganguly and Chawla were out showing unnecessary aggression. Obviously Second inning was a lot tougher to bat on but again Sehwag threw is wicket.I've only seen the highlights and been following on cricinfo, so someone who has been watching can correct me, but it looks like average batting from players on both sides more than anything - Dravid's wicket first innings was the pitch, Kallis was unlucky first innings as well but many of the wickets have fallen from silliness, from what I gather anyway.
Termanati was right mate. Not a ridiculous post at all, and turned out to be spot on.Harris to turn it square and take 8, just to make Termanati's two posts look even more ridiculous than they already do.
No, nobody's that bad. At least Paul Harris wasn't outbowled by a part-timer. I also wouldn't compare this surface to Mumbai, although both pitches were capable of making trundlers look menacing and batsmen look like amateurs. Mumbai was 10x worse, IMO.I'm sorry but anyone who rates Paul Harris as a good spin bowler needs to have a re-think. He may be able to fill the "tight bowler" role on flat tracks, but he was piss poor this match. Similar to Hauritz ala 2004.
Haha you're right, but Sehwag DID outbowl Paul Harris, and I wouldn't call Sehwag a full-time spin bowler. Granted he's not on the same team like Michael Clarke was for Hauritz, but its the same principle. No, nobody's that bad. At least Paul Harris wasn't outbowled by a part-timer. And the circle is complete The career of India's super star Wicket keeper reaches its climax when the stsrs line him to be the man to bridge the past's greats with the future. All seamlessly done...Some nice points raised by Daryll Cullinan below:
DC:"I think Dhoni is always impressive. I saw him Ireland a while back and I think he's a very smart cricketer. I think this is the dilemma that faces Indian cricket at the moment. You have got an aging captain with an aging side on the one hand and you have got a young captain with an emerging side on the other.
Just looking at it from the outside, it looks as though the energy and force is moving with Dhoni. He is the face of Indian cricket I often hear rumours about the split between the juniors and the seniors and I feel that therein lies the major issue and India need to address it quickly.
How much longer can they look to have an older captain with an older squad looking to preserve their places, when you have a dynamic, young, smart captain on the other side, who has got everything moving behind him?
I think that is the conflict at the moment which is troubling India and I don't see how long they can continue having two captains. You also sense that the squad warms to Dhoni, they seem relaxed and happy to follow what he has to say. I don't want to be Gary Kirsten or the Indian selectors, but I am sure, in time, and looking at the circumstances of this victory will mean that Dhoni will become captain in both forms of the game."

I love Dhoni and think he's a terrific captain, but this comment by Cullinan doesn't work if Dhoni's not making runs. And he isn't atm. Some nice points raised by Daryll Cullinan below:

RIght from the first over I saw Harris bowl in this Game, I thought RUH RHO RHAGGY (Scooby doo impression)Haha, why is Harris sending down full toss? Here's a pitch which is about as good as you can hope for as a spinner, and he wants to forego its use .
Really not applicable..All this "Transformation policy" BS just trying to get players of other races in, when they really should just be trying to get the best players. And concentrate on making great cricketers, not just great black cricketers.
I agree with some of what Cullinan said .... btw Boucher didn't make runs to in this series and that doesn't mean he should not be the captainI love Dhoni and think he's a terrific captain, but this comment by Cullinan doesn't work if Dhoni's not making runs. And he isn't atm.
Speaking of the older squad, it was Laxman and Ganguly (and Harbhajan who whilst not young, is a senior member) who won it for India.
Haha worst comparison ever.I agree with some of what Cullinan said .... btw Boucher didn't make runs to in this series and that doesn't mean he should not be the captain
Dhoni HAS established himself as the test wicket-keeper and thats his primary job, the reason he is in the team .... and he is averaging 33, which is not not bad .... btw, Boucher is averaging 30.02Haha worst comparison ever.
Look at Dhoni's test career vs. Boucher. Boucher is a proven test WK/batsman, Dhoni isn't. Dhoni had an ordinary test series vs. Aus too btw.
