what is so good about Thushara? how did he get wickets.. from what i saw he doesnt swing or seam it really... does bend his back a bit though

gutted for Windies really am
Most of his wickets were from poor shots by the Windies batsmen. But Test wickets are still wickets.

He did get a bit of reverse swing later on though. Always an asset to have someone who can reverse the ball.Sri Lanka seem to have an abundance of bowlers who can reverse swing the kookaburra. Vaas,Malinga and now Thushara/Mirando.

SL were lucky to win this given some of those decisions.

I expect Windies to come right back strong in the Second Test.

SL may be better off playing Vaas, Welagedera and Mirando and possibly dropping Herath.

Amerasinghe and Kulasekera are in the touring squad aren't they? Any thoughts about the likelihood that they'll get a game?

I really hope they keep Kulasekera out - he's not really a wicket taker, mainly a run restricting bowler more suited to ODIs.

Amerasinghe is worth playing at Port of Spain.

i thought amerasinghe was not playing due to injury. kulasekera is beyond a joke and therefore the selectors are likely to reward him with a game.

i like that line up. i'd maybe drop herath and bring amerasinghe if he is fit. i can't believe that bandara wasn't picked in the squad.

I'm so jealous of one of my friends right now. She went out to Trinidad at the weekend to see family for a week, and I was joking with her that she'll get dragged along to the Test match. She really has no idea about cricket or anything and just thinks it a strange obsession of mine.

So guess who's now going on Thursday...

Gayle indicated that he's unlikely to open the batting in the 2nd Test. Can't remember what he said exactly, but it seemed to indicate that he's comfortable in the middle order against Sri Lanka. I'd tip Ramdin or Bravo to partner Chattergoon.

Had a friend like that. Never showed any interest in the sport at all. Went to Sydney for a week, got dragged along to the test match. Steve Waugh makes his famous career-saving Ashes ton. Haven't spoken to her since itbt.

Haha, just speaking to her on MSN now. I said "watch out for Kumar Sangakkara, he's the world's best batsman in my opinion at the moment." That was it. She replied "Your cricket knowledge is really geeky at times."

I think we get so absorbed in this site sometimes that we don't realize that even the 'least knowledgeable' long time poster on this site (who has been posting for a couple years) probably is part of the top 1% in cricket knowledge compared to all cricket fans, let alone the general public.

Yeah, that's true. But she knows I'm among the top 1% of knowledgeable cricket fans and still thinks that's pretty diverse knowledge. I suppose to the complete novice, Sri Lanka might not strike them as a particularly strong cricket nation. Plus non-sports fans here have a better knowledge of football, which is almost exclusively centred on the English game.

I was tempted to name the entire Sri Lankan lineup to her, but thought that she might never speak to me again after that.

Agree with the decision not to.

I think if you took a poll of people who've been here two years or more, 90+% them would be able to quote the lineup of every country with 90%+ accuracy. That is amazing if you think about it, considering how many people in the average cricket loving world can make that claim.
